As a working technician, you will be expected to spend a majority of time working on jobs, instruction on the use of equipment, upkeep, and upgrading of the JILA Clean Room and W. M. Keck Optical Metrology Lab. Work hard and this position has the potential for professional advancement.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Thin film and micro/nanofabrication jobs. 
  • Instruction, training, and user consulting. 
  • Design and fabrication of new instruments and attachments, and upgrades to existing equipment. 
  • Maintenance. 
  • Professional development, research, and education. 
Job Duties:
  • Perform jobs related to micro/nanofabrication and thin-film coating, and/or client consulting.
  • Instruction of JILA students and others on cleanroom protocols, safety, and methodologies to ensure smooth operations and integrity of cleanroom environment and equipment.
  • Provide instruction on the accurate use of optical metrology and clean room instruments.
  • Monitor, test, and evaluate the operational status of a variety of micro and nanofabrication and optical metrology related instruments and equipment. Render maintenance and repair tasks as needed.
  • Working with OEM technicians on instruments that are covered by service contracts or warranties.
  • Adapt existing equipment to the special needs of users.
  • Detailing equipment maintenance history, modifications, and upgrades.
  • Ensure consumable supplies inventories are maintained.
  • Maintain record-keeping on jobs and timesheet.
  • Ensure safety procedures and precautions are followed. Follow inspections for safety, chemical inventory and CU Environmental Health & Safety.

The salary range for this position is $67,000.00 to $80,000.00.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree. 
  • Minimum of five years of cleanroom and cleanroom equipment experience in direct use of Class 100 and/or Class 1000 Clean Room and advanced optical and microfabrication measurement techniques.
  • Expertise and previous experience in photo and e-beam lithography techniques, physical vapor deposition, thin-film technology, and (preferred) optical coatings.
