The College of Engineering seeks an exceptional individual to initiate educational and service programs that support engineering curriculum in design and innovation. The design and innovation curriculum in the College of Engineering has expanded substantially since the formation of the college in 2012. Enrollment surpassed 2,400 undergraduate and graduate majors in the college in Fall 2019, and a critical aspect of our engineering program is the design experience at all levels. Elements of engineering design are infused in all degree programs from the first-year experience through the senior capstone design, and numerous research projects require access to high quality testing and fabrication facilities. Over the past two years the college has significantly expanded assets that provide students with the tools necessary for digital design and simulation, automated machining, and advanced fabrication. In addition to a state-of-the-art machine shop, a student prototyping center, and a digital fabrication laboratory, the college will be opening 10 new laboratories in Fall 2019 that will support our instruction in all of our degree programs at the undergraduate and graduate level. These assets are becoming a critical element of our capability as the laboratory experiences for our students are increasing and the number of capstone projects has increased to nearly 100. These needs are coupled to our desire to have a significant contribution to the university-wide programs in experiential and project-based learning, e.g., the new Innovation District facility that is expected to be completed in Spring 2021.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, acting as an interface between student design teams and corporate sponsors; ensuring timely reporting between design teams and project sponsors; working closely with faculty and staff on the coordination and assignment of laboratory facilities to most effectively support the design and innovation curriculum and research activities; training and mentoring student design teams and effectively transitioning design projects to projects that support entrepreneurship and innovation; representing the college in university-wide activities associated with design and innovation; working with the college development team to solicit funds to support design and innovation; supervising staff that support design, innovation, and research in the college.

This position will be an academic year (9-month), non-tenure-track, clinical faculty position at the level of assistant professor. Evaluation and promotion guidelines for this position can be found at https://provost.uga.edu/policies/appointment-promotion-and-tenure/. The position will be affiliated with the Office of Outreach and Experiential Learning and will report directly to the dean, but will work closely with college leadership, faculty, students, and staff on planning, coordinating, and executing programs. The faculty member will be expected to teach courses that support design and innovation in the college.

Application Procedure: To apply, candidates should submit (1) letter of application indicating your experience and interests, (2) curriculum vitae, (3) teaching philosophy/statement not exceeding 2 pages (4) unofficial transcripts, and (5) contact information for three references. Please submit application materials online at http://www.ugajobsearch.com/postings/127307. Questions related to the position may be directed to the search committee chair Dr. Crystal Leach. Email: csleach@uga.edu.
