The Software Engineering Technical Center (T850) is seeking a Co-Technical Director (Co-TD) to join our leadership team at either the MITRE McLean or Bedford campus. The Co-TD will join the TD in being responsible for developing and executing division strategy, and enabling the alignment of the workforce to deliver mission value through hiring, development, and matching staff to appropriate work programs. The Co-TD should be familiar with T850s primary capabilities, including but not limited to agile software development, cloud engineering, cyber software effects, DevOps, human factors engineering, IoT, mobile software, model-based software engineering, robotics & autonomous software systems, and embedded software systems. The successful candidate should have strong experience in managing an organization and have demonstrated thought leadership on MITRE projects and initiatives. In addition, the successful candidate should be someone who has demonstrated outstanding and timely results in advanced software engineering projects having significant enterprise-wide impact, while building trusted relationships and exemplifying MITREs values and professionalism.

Roles and Responsibilities


1.      Strategic Planning

1.1.   The Co-TD (jointly with the TD) defines and executes Division strategy, allocating resources of time and attention in ways that can position the division and its staff to increase their technical mastery and deliver technical contributions that lead to actionable recommendations and improved mission outcomes.

1.2.   The Co-TD maintains a broad understanding of the Divisions core capabilities, relevant emerging technologies, and MITREs role in supporting sponsors critical needs, and will apply analytic skills, and inspire similar innovative thinking in others, to drive the Division through impactful innovation to be aligned to the applicable sponsor missions so that it delivers recognized value and technical quality.

2.      Staff development and workforce shaping

2.1.    The Co-TD works with the Division leadership to help staff gain the expertise needed to meet current and future capability demands, and to ensure that the best expertise is brought to bear on relevant current and emerging sponsor problems. The Co-TD fosters a development-focused culture in which staff are encouraged to engage in continuous learning that aligns with current and emerging sponsor challenges and with their own career growth goals. The Co-TD ensures that staff are supported in taking measured risks to adapt quickly to a changing environment.

2.2.   The Co-TD is committed to all supervisors and work leaders conducting ongoing and meaningful CLEAR conversations. The Co-TD is approachable and caring, open, and honest in dealing with all staff. The successful candidate has demonstrated the ability to identify, attract and empower talent. The Co-TD promotes staff accountability by ensuring that work leaders provide clear expectations to their teams, and has experience in addressing performance issues quickly and appropriately for timely resolution.

2.3.   The Co-TD is responsible (jointly with the TD) for T850 being a premiere provider of technical expertise in its competency areas.

3.      Integration

3.1.   The Co-TD partners with Division leadership across MITRE to ensure the alignment of personnel, capabilities, and outcomes. Since it is imperative that Divisions across the company have a shared, broad understanding of program development and emerging technologies, the Co-TD is a key force in having MITRE deliver efficient and effective multi-disciplinary, cross-cutting solutions to stakeholders. The successful candidate is able to communicate to colleagues and sponsors how T850s diverse technical capabilities can support their mission imperatives.

3.2.   The Co-TD is both an effective manager and a senior technical leader. As the technical thought leader, in his/her own right areas of expertise and contribute as such to sponsor-based projects, potentially MIP and corporate initiatives as well.

4.      Division Operations

4.1.   The Co-TD works closely with the TD, Operations Manager, and Business Finance Partner to manage Division operations, including overseeing budget and resources such that the other Division goals requiring overhead (e.g., Division initiatives, strategy development, and professional development activities) can be achieved. By managing Division resources effectively and adapting practices and behaviors in response to a changing environment, the Co-TD enhances the Divisions contributions to Mission Value Chain as well as workplace satisfaction.


Role Responsibilities:

    Budgetary: The Co-TD has fiscal budgetary authority and HR signature authority.

    Technical: The Co-TD coordinates with the TD and the Chief Engineer to set expectations and strategy to facilitate integration across Portfolios, Programs, and Technical Centers, and to deliver technical quality and value.

    Work Shaping: The Co-TD coordinates with the TD and the Chief Engineer to plan and execute the technical strategy and works in partnership with Portfolio, Program, and Technical Center leadership to provide direction and ensure alignment of personnel, capabilities, and activities.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or similar field, and 15 years of related experience. Candidate must be willing to operate effectively at high levels within MITRE customers and potential customers organizations, recognizing and following through on opportunities in new areas and/or with new MITRE customers.

TS/SCI clearance is preferred
