Job Description

The Aerospace, Transportation, & Systems (ATAS) Lab of the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is seeking Autonomy Test Engineers interested in intellectually challenging and rewarding work. Located in Atlanta, GA, ATAS conducts world-class applied research in avionics modeling, simulation, analysis, testing, evaluation, and software development to support the government sponsors.

The Autonomy Test Engineer is a research faculty position in the Collaborative Autonomy branch. This position will support the development of safety-critical autonomous system architectures that meet airworthiness and security requirements in various DoD efforts.

Job Duties

  • Support system integration and software development projects for the Department of Defense autonomous system improvement programs
  • Use system specifications and interface descriptions for integration into testing system of systems for Software-in-the-Loop (SITL), Hardware-in-the-Loop (HITL), and vehicle flight test operations
  • Develop and maintain documentation for system architectural framework, methods, and tools
  • Ensure that technical work is performed to appropriate professional standards and that technical requirements are met
  • Manage and document system configurations
  • Create and investigate software change requests
  • Coordinate system development tasks to include design, integration, and formal testing

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field of study.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist II

  • A Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field of study and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field of study.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's degree program relevant to this position will be considered. Candidate must have a graduation date of no later than May 2021
  • Demonstrated experience in and understanding of the following:
    • Test plan development
    • Containerized applications (e.g. Docker)
    • Python (procedural and object-oriented)
    • Virtual machines
    • Linux development on embedded hardware

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate with multiple teams
  • Experience with computer networks
  • C++
  • Good spatial reasoning
  • Experience with robotics and/or ROS

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
