Sandia's Computational Simulation Group (CSG) is a highly integrated team of departments focused on delivering an integrated suite of trusted, world-class, predictive engineering tools enabling multi-physics analyses. The CSG employs rigorous product development processes where staff are the key impetus for process improvements through adoption of new techniques and industry standard methodologies. All software development is conducted under the principles of lean/agile software practices. Team members are co-located in a virtual/real software laboratory, adhere to SCRUM methodologies, and pair program regularly.



We are seeking an experienced scrum master who also has the willingness and aptitude to expand their technical horizons to other areas. This position requires an experienced team-centric computer scientist/engineer to join a team of software developers and engineers who specialize in the development, delivery and maintenance of scientific applications and computing infrastructures for numerous and diverse computing architectures! The right person for this position will have flexibility in their job assignments and will serve primarily as the CSG’s Chief Scrum Master at about half time and will balance their time with other CSG teams as scrum master, and/or software developer, and/or UX researcher.



On any given day, you may be called on to:





+ Provide Agile/Scrum leadership expertise for the CSG’s integrated software development teams



+ Lead and facilitate integrated CSG team planning meetings, stand-ups, and retrospectives



+ Plan, conceive, and conduct, research, and development for the CSG’s customers and sponsors



+ Gather, analyze, and share quantitative, qualitative, and performance data across the CSG



+ Initiate, design, develop, implement, and evaluate new processes, products, or systems through basic and applied research for the CSG’s software products and services



+ Collaborate with the CSG’s physics-based application developers and user-interface designers to create high quality software products



+ Prioritize and balance competing activities and manage ambiguity, especially when performing in different roles which may include, in addition to the CSG Chief Scrum Master, software development using C/C++ for scientific programming and/or version control systems (particularly git), Python, and Shell Scripting on diverse computing architectures; or, UX research using a wide variety of usability methods, including observational studies, user interviews, surveys, heuristic evaluations, usability testing etc.

Qualifications We Require:





+ Bachelor’s and Master's degree in a relevant STEM field and one year experience or a Bachelor's degree and five years experience



+ Three or more years’ experience performing in a scrum master role



+ Experience developing, using, and leading formal software engineering processes, particularly agile processes



+ Experience with various support tools such as Jira, Confluence, Teams, etc.



+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q Level clearance





Qualifications We Desire:





+ Scrum Master or Scrum Professional certified



+ Excellent communication skills and ability to develop and present ideas and results in oral and written form



+ Demonstrated problem-solving skills, and a willingness to submit work for extensive review

The Advanced Simulation and Computing (ASC) program at Sandia provides state-of-the-art computer simulation capabilities as part of NNSA’s mission to extend the lifetime of nuclear weapons in the stockpile without underground testing.
