Computer Vision and Imaging Analytics (Experienced)

We are seeking a creative, motivated computers scientist / computer vision / image processing engineer interested in taking on the challenge of developing and implementing unique computer vision and imaging analytics solutions for a wide variety of tests carried out in challenging environments, including explosive, fireball, underwater, rocket sled track, and cable pull\-down tests\. You should enjoy working in both the laboratory and field and have strong technical analysis skills and engineering practices\.

Key responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

+ Write code to extract various image measurements from test data\.
+ Implement existing computer vision algorithms into practical & modular tools that enable batch processing of test data for quantitative analytics\.
+ Use various statistical and signal processing libraries / tools to process & filter extracted measurements\.
+ Write tools to create engaging data fusion products to visualize measurements with imagery\.
+ Working with test collection teams to ensure field measurements work well with imaging tools\.
+ Finding creative yet practical solutions to measurement problems that arise in the field
+ Aggregating and statistically summarizing data generated from digital video data sets
+ Computing and reporting uncertainties for imaging measurements\.
+ Developing unique data fusion products using scientific video data sets to create impactful visualizations of imaging measurements, time\-varying 2D and 3D models, and instrumentation data\.
+ Developing reusable code libraries to support data fusion visualization, imaging analysis, imaging calibration, new imaging techniques, and image acquisition

In this role, you will work with a high performing and cohesive team including electrical, systems, mechanical, and optical engineers\. Our work includes measurement R&D, electrical design, systems engineering, optical measurements, data collection, and data analysis\. Tests are carried out at Sandia and occasionally at off\-site facilities, and range from large\-scale experiments that may involve months of planning and preparation to smaller tests that are often completed in a matter of days\. We use systems engineering principles and processes to ensure we deliver high quality and safe engineering solutions for high consequence tests of national importance\.

+ Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
+ Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
+ Two years related experience
+ Experience with programming in Python
+ Experience with imaging data analytics, computer vision, image processing, or related discipline
+ Experience with statistical analysis of image processing data
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance


+ Experience with software programming in C / C\+\+ / R / Julia languages
+ Experience with parsing data from a wide range of instruments
+ Experience with source code control
+ Experience working with large data sets
+ Ability to create engaging and visually attractive data products
+ Working knowledge of instrumentation, optical engineering, and mechanical engineering
+ Ability to solve problems in a highly collaborative environment
+ Ability to discover, understand, and articulate customer needs
+ Ability to create modular command line tools
+ Ability to create modular graphical user interface tools
+ Ability to develop creative and efficient solutions

Department Description:

The Measurement Sciences and Engineering Department, 1535, is a multi\-disciplinary group that provides imaging, instrumentation, and analytic support to test systems of national importance\. We collaborate with our sister organizations for the successful execution of large\- and small\-scale transient event tests that include explosive and high\-speed impacts at subsystem and system levels\. We provide our customers with critical data and information for model validation, hardware unit qualification, and engineering development\. We partner with a broad range of customers from nearly every area across the laboratories, including nuclear weapons, non\-proliferation detection, transportation safety, renewable energy, and national security programs\.
