We have multiple openings for Postdoctoral Researchersto conduct research in experimental materials sciences with an emphasis on studying corrosion, oxidation and hydriding behavior using advanced characterization techniques, with particular interest in in situ characterization methods, including X-ray spectroscopy techniques, atomic force microscopy (AFM),transmission electron electroscopy (TEM), and imaging mass spectrometry (nanoSIMS, ex situ).These positions are in the Materials Science Division.

Essential Duties
- Conduct fundamental research on corrosion behavior of metals, including those fabricated by additive manufacturing.
- Conduct basic research on electrochemical, oxidation and hydriding behavior via various advanced characterization tools.
- Characterize surface and microstructure from various processing conditions.
- Contribute to and actively participate in the conception, design, and execution of research to address defined problems.
- Pursue independent but complementary research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of scientists internally and externally to the Laboratory.
- Collaborate with theorists in a multidisciplinary team environment to accomplish research goals.
- Maintain and establish laboratory protocols.
- Document research; publish papers in peer-reviewed journals and present results within the DOE community and at conferences.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Recent PhD in chemistry, physics, materials science, or a related field.
- Experience in metals and proficiency in microstructure, surface characterization, or interfacial dynamics.
- Experience in various corrosion testing and characterization techniques.
- Knowledgeable ofelectrochemical corrosion or oxidation or hydriding behavior of metals.
- Ability as an innovative experimentalist with a broad range of experience in experimental design, techniques, and execution.
- Ability to develop independent research projects through publication of peer-reviewed literature.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills as reflected in effectivepresentations at seminars, meetings, and/or teaching lectures.
- Initiative and interpersonal skills with desire and ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with laser powder bed fusion processing and other additive manufacturing and conventional metallurgical processing techniques.
- Experience with advanced characterization methods, and familiarity with materials modeling (atomistic to continuum).
- Expertise in electrochemical methods such as impedance spectroscopy or scanning electrochemical microscopy, or scanning Kelvin microscopy, and performing in-situ microscopy and spectroscopy experiments.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance: None required.

Note: This is a two year Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years. Eligible candidates are recent PhDs within five years of the month of the degree award at time of hire date.
