The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State University is seeking a tenure/tenure-track faculty position at the level of an assistant or associate professor. This faculty member will have research and teaching expertise in materials science and engineering and related mechanical engineering areas, particularly in the areas that synergistically strengthen current research and teaching activities. Biomaterials research areas that are complementary with current research are of particular interest. Materials science research areas that will also be considered include the synthesis, processing, testing and characterization of metals, alloys, ceramics, smart materials, and advanced composite materials as well as advanced manufacturing methodologies applied to these materials. This faculty member will be a full-time nine-month appointment. The individual will be expected to build and maintain a strong, internationally recognized research program supported through external funding, to enhance the Department’s educational programs, and to provide service to the University and broader community. A successful faculty member is expected to teach courses in our mechanical, materials and potentially biomedical engineering curricula at the undergraduate and graduate levels, advise undergraduate and graduate students, and develop advanced courses in their area of expertise. A successful individual is expected to make contributions to the School of Advanced Materials Discovery (https://www.research.colostate.edu/samd/), and the School of Biomedical Engineering (https://www.engr.colostate.edu/sbme/).

• PhD degree in mechanical engineering, materials science and engineering, or a closely related field.
• Successful faculty member must demonstrate impactful scholarship, and the potential to build a robust extra-murally funded research program.
• The faculty member must exhibit ability and enthusiasm to teach courses in the ME Department and SAMD’s curricula, and demonstrate a personal and professional commitment to diversity.


Candidates will be considered at the Assistant or Associate Professor level depending on qualifications.
• Experience beyond doctoral training in an academic, government, or industrial setting.
• Evidence of a record of high-quality research commensurate with experience.
• Evidence of teaching effectiveness.
• Experience teaching courses in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering.
