Data Center Network Engineer (Experienced)

We are seeking a highly motivated data center network engineer with expert level technical experience to join our team.

The successful candidate will contribute on multi-disciplinary teams and high visibility projects associated with innovative web browsing isolation, authentication, Linux system administration and automation, DNS/ DHCP management and optimization, and forward/reverse proxy deployments. He or she will covet wearing multiple hats across networking, cyber security and systems.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Apply expert level infrastructure knowledge using Linux, including DNS, DHCP, PKI, and Kerberos
+ Manage web traffic flows on platforms such as F5, Blue Coat/Symantec and Menlo security gateways
+ Manage system baselines through automation using Ansible playbooks
+ Ensure a stable and secure environment through proactive identification and mitigation of cyber threats
+ Build technology roadmaps and recommend new architectures in pursuit of more agile IT infrastructure
+ Oversee IT service management and operations including assessing key performance indicators and ensuring highly reliable core services


+ B.S. in computer science, engineering, information systems, or other relevant discipline; plus 5 or more years of experience or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance
+ Experience with Linux (at advanced level) and at least one of the following infrastructure platforms: DNS/DHCP, Ansible, F5, Symantec/Blue Coat, Squid, or Menlo


+ Effective project leadership abilities; able to plan and organize within challenging timelines and situations of uncertainty
+ Expert knowledge of IT infrastructure and operations with cross-functional experience across web security, network services, traffic management, and automation
+ Knowledgeable about collecting metrics, measuring systems, and interpreting data to make decisions
+ Passion for continuous improvement including identifying technical gaps and developing innovative solutions
+ Experience with infrastructure automation, scripting, and programming tools using Python, PowerShell, or other automation techniques
+ Adaptable with the ability to gracefully adjust to meeting changing circumstances, demands, and priorities

Department Description:

The Computing Infrastructure Solutions department manages enterprise level computing and infrastructure for Sandia/California, including virtualization, storage, core services, and cloud. A transformational data center modernization project is led out of this department. The group also operates the data center and helps enable enterprise disaster recovery for Sandia.

Security Clearance:
