Job Description

The Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) Electronic Systems Integration Division (ESID) is currently seeking a Data Link System Engineer for a full time research faculty position in the Tactical Communications Engineering Branch. (TCEB). This position supports system integration and software development projects for Department of Defense (DoD) aircraft improvement programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• Serve as a technical expert on military tactical data links, associated radios, and system uses of those data links for sponsors and associated projects
• Support the team's tactical data link strategy, planning, and asset management
• Develop relevant system level requirements for tactical data links
• Decompose and allocate requirements into a system design
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop data link technical solutions for our DoD sponsors ensuring all products meet allocated requirements and design specifications
• Utilize existing system specifications, interface definitions, and aircraft drawings to develop novel solutions
• Ensure that all technical work is performed and documented in compliance with professional standards
• Design and manage laboratory configurations for tactical data links and assigned projects
• Integrate system components and support equipment in laboratory and fielded settings
• Isolate hardware and software component anomalies
• Analyze flight and laboratory data to determine if system requirements are met
• Develop quantitative feasibility analyses on possible solutions to increase system effectiveness and integrate new capabilities
• Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate I

• A Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate II

• A Master’s degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree

Required Minimum Qualifications

• Experience in system engineering processes and methodologies applicable to complex systems development
• Experience with Link-16 usage for aviation
• Experience creating and conducting technical presentations
• Minimum 3 years of applicable experience in a technical field

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with SADL, Link-16, IBS, TTNT, MADL, VMF, SRW, ISR, Navigation, Air Traffic Management, and/or UCI networks
• Experience with MIDS-LVT or MIDS-JTRS radios
• Experience with MIL-STD-1553 data bus, avionics systems, Electronic Warfare (EW) systems, and open systems architectures
• Experience with configuration management and requirements management systems
• Experience leading small technical tasks and/or teams
• Active SECRET clearance

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
