Job Description

The Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) Electronic Systems Integration Division (ESID) is currently seeking an Tactical Data Link System Engineer for a full time research position. This position supports system integration and software development projects for Department of Defense (DoD) manned and unmanned aircraft improvement programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Serve as a technical expert on military tactical data links, associated radios, and system uses of those data links for sponsors and associated projects
  • Support the team's tactical data link strategy, planning, and asset management
  • Develop, decompose and allocate customer requirements into system designs describing the architecture structure, allocation of behavior, and data interfaces to hardware and software components
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop data link technical solutions for our DoD sponsors ensuring all products meet allocated requirements and design specifications
  • Utilize existing system specifications, interface definitions and aircraft drawing to develop novel solutions
  • Ensure that all technical work is performed and documented in compliance with professional standards
  • Design and manage laboratory configurations for tactical data links and assigned projects
  • Integrate system components and support equipment in laboratory and fielded setting
  • Isolate hardware and software component anomalies
  • Analyze flight and laboratory data to determine if system requirements are met
  • Develop quantitative feasibility analyses on possible solutions to increase system effectiveness and integrate new capabilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist II

  • A Masters degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related technical field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related technical field and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related technical field.

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist

  • A Masters degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related technical field and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Masters degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related technical field and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelors degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or related technical field and four (4) years of relevant full time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience developing complex, software intensive, military or avionics systems using system engineering processes and methodologies
  • Experience creating and conducting technical presentations
  • Experience with Link-16 usage for military aviation
  • 7+ years of applicable experience in a technical field
  • Consideration will be give to candidates that do not have a Master's degree with 15+ years of experience performing in roles that align with the responsibilities and requirements defined for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with SADL, Link-16, IBS, TTNT, MADL, VMF, SRW, ISR, Navigation, Air Traffic Management and/or UCI networks
  • Experience with MIDS-LVT or MIDS-JTRS radios
  • Experience developing system design for Electronic Warfare systems
  • Experience designing systems using Model Based System Engineering (SysML) and agile methodologies
  • Experience integrating and troubleshooting systems
  • Experience with configuration management and requirements management systems
  • Experience leading small to mid-sized technical tasks and/or teams
  • Active DoD SECRET clearance

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
