Dayton Field Office Research Lead -- ELSYS

Job Description

The Dayton Field Office ELSYS Lead works closely with GTRI's Dayton Field Office Manager to represent GTRI in collaboration with United States Air Force (USAF) sponsors and the local Dayton business community as well as assisting with supervision, oversight, and well-being of field office employees. Additionally, the Dayton Field Office ELSYS Lead researches, develops, and executes strategic and tactical business plans in coordination with the Field Office Manager and ensures that GTRI is represented favorably in the local public eye by supporting community events and local STEM programs. The Dayton Field Office ELSYS Lead is responsible for collaborative sponsor engagement as well as conducting sponsored research on various projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Provide project management, technical oversight, and subject matter expert support for GTRI's Dayton-based portfolio of sponsored research to ensure execution of successful research programs with a focus on ELSYS programs
  • Provides supervision and support for Dayton-based personnel, to include mentoring and training to develop expertise in project execution including facilitating the publication of novel research activities, professional development, and other training opportunities
  • Coordinate with the Dayton Field Office Manager to formulate strategic direction, and plans for the Field Office and GTRI's Dayton based stakeholders
  • Work with the Dayton Field Office Manager to coordinate local sponsor engagement activities
  • Maintain strong relationships with GTRI sponsors, specifically USAF sponsors located in the Dayton area to include supporting frequent on-base technical and business development meetings
  • Maintain strong relationships with Atlanta-based researchers and stay abreast of GTRI technical capabilities and business areas
  • Coordinate business development efforts with other GTRI laboratories to maximize program development opportunities for GTRI
  • Maintain awareness of potential USAF sponsor needs outside of the primary ELSYS technical areas where other GTRI laboratories could serve the best interest of the sponsor
  • Coordinate proposal strategy, support bid/no-bid decisions, and lead/support proposal efforts for locally sponsored projects
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Length of Experience

Senior Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate

  • A Bachelor's degree and Master's degree required, with one or both in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering or any other Engineering, Mathematics, or Science related degree and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Bachelor's degree and Master's degree required, with one or both in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering or any other Engineering, Mathematics, or Science related degree and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree and Master's degree required, with one or both in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering or any other Engineering, Mathematics, or Science related degree and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.

Principal Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate

  • A Bachelor's degree and Master's degree required, with one or both in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering or any other Engineering, Mathematics, or Science related degree and eleven (11) years of relevant full-time experience, or
  • A Doctoral degree and Master's degree required, with one or both in Computer Science, Computer/Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, or any other Engineering, Mathematics, or Science related degree and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience leading technical programs in project management or technical leadership role
  • Experience leading business development activities and sponsor engagement
  • Experience facilitating dialogue, collaboration, and partnerships among research personnel, government, and industry stakeholders
  • Ability to create and deliver technical presentations effectively
  • Experience serving as a Project Manager/Project Director

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current TS/SCI security clearance
  • Experience working for and/or supporting USAF research and development at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base
  • Experience with the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center and/or Air Force Research Laboratory, to include programs and organizational structures
  • Experience with USAF Simulation and Analysis Facility (SIMAF)
  • Experience with USAF contracting
  • Experience facilitating dialogue, collaboration, and partnerships between research personnel and government and/or industry stakeholders
  • Experience managing personnel/researchers in a supervisory or associate supervisory role
  • Experience in one or more of GTRI's technical competencies (e.g., electronic warfare, cyber warfare, avionics, systems engineering, etc.)
  • Experience managing large programs and/or contract vehicles
  • Experience planning complex engineering work and leading engineering teams in the execution of that work
  • Experience with systems development processes, configuration management, and control processes associated with project management execution
  • Experience developing and presenting technical and non-technical information to Senior Executive level sponsors and decision-makers
  • Current Senior Researcher or Principal Researcher at GTRI

Due to our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position are required to be U.S. Citizens.
