The Department of Software Engineering within the U.A. Whitaker College of Engineering at Florida Gulf Coast University invites nominations and applications for the position of Department Chair. Appointment will be at the Associate/Full Professor level with a 12-month contract. Located in the beautiful, mid-sized city of Fort Myers, Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) is a public, comprehensive university offering a wide range of undergraduate and selected graduate degree programs whose vision and mission statements includes an ongoing commitment to the sustainability and resilience of southwest Florida. Opened in the fall of 1997, FGCU is in the enviable position of having all new facilities that have been especially designed and built for a campus of the 21st century. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: An earned Doctorate in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution. An appropriate record of teaching and scholarship commensurate to being hired at the level of Associate Professor or Full Professor. Experience in program assessment.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Evidence of leadership ability, a record of creative program development and on-going scholarly work, and support for collaborative learning through integrated lecture and lab activities. Previous academic administrative and/or industrial experience. Experience as an ABET visitor and/or with ABET accreditation standards. The ability to successfully develop relationships and interact with external university constituents in construction, business, and technology and to establish relationships internally. Skills in working in a rapidly developing regional comprehensive university with a focus on creating a student-learning environment among diverse academic disciplines. Ability to teach undergraduate software engineering courses, mentor and coach software engineering faculty and students, and participate in regional/national seminars, workshops and committees.


BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: The U.A. Whitaker College of Engineering is dedicated to quality education, research, and service. All faculty are expected to be excellent teachers who are committed to innovative delivery of instruction that results in improved student learning; to using technology, including distance learning, effectively; to engage in scholarly and service activities; and to engage in a continuous and outcomes-based assessment process. The Software Engineering Department Chair will be responsible for teaching appropriate undergraduate courses and will work closely with the professional staff and faculty of the U.A. Whitaker College of Engineering to oversee the undergraduate curriculum in Software Engineering. Appointment will be made at a faculty rank commensurate with the candidate's experience on a 12-month multi-year basis with a preferred starting date of January 2019.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to deal effectively with a diverse range of learners and to use information technology as a pedagogical and professional tool. Established record of success and excellence in university teaching, scholarship, and service. Interest in collaborating both within and outside of the university in the development and delivery of instruction. A commitment to collaborate with other faculty to develop a shared vision of the future.
