Deputy Division Leader for Defense Technologies Engineering Division - Active Security Clearance Required

We have an opening for a Deputy Division Leader (DDL) in Defense Technologies Engineering Division (DTED). DTED is a multidisciplinary organization of approximately 600 technical and administrative professionals focused on providing engineering support to the Weapons and Complex Integration (WCI) Principal Directorate. You will partner with the Division Leader (DL) in managing personnel, financial, and operational resources to meet the needs of the WCI and Engineering Directorates as well as represent the DL in their absence. This position reports to the DTED Division Leader and is within the Engineering Directorate

In this role you will 

  • Provide leadership, management, planning, and support of the activities of the Division to anticipate and meet technical and programmatic needs of primarily WCI customers.
  • Participate as a member of DTED's senior management team in the formulation and execution of short-term and strategic goals for the Division.
  • Lead and contribute to the development of the organization, its key leaders, and a culture that promotes diversity, embraces teamwork, and provides a work environment where everyone's contribution is valued.
  • Foster a work environment that stimulates and retains high-quality personnel.
  • Mentor and coach technical and administrative staff members.
  • Foster continued interaction, coordination, and cooperation among a wide variety of internal and external organizations.
  • Provide direction in the overall conduct and coordination of personnel administration activities, including performance review, appraisal, ranking, and salary management, and to support in the management of the division budget.
  • Direct activities for recruiting, hiring, transfers, training, and career development for the Division. Participate on the Engineering Directorate Exempt Review Board (ERB) as an active member.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Extensive experience leading technical initiatives in an engineering or scientific discipline.
  • Extensive leadership and success supervising personnel, resource planning and monitoring, while working with a diverse organization comprised of engineers, technical staff, and administrative staff.
  • Ability to make personnel and operational decisions based on aggregate information and the recommendations of others that significantly affect the ability of the organization and Laboratory to achieve its overall objectives and long-range goals.
  • Broad knowledge of the programmatic activities associated with the NNSA weapons program.
  • Extensive experience identifying problems that are highly unusual, complex, and/or sensitive in nature and developing innovative solutions.
  • Ability to manage emotions in positive ways to communicate effectively, empathize with others, overcome setbacks, and defuse conflict.
  • Expert communication, facilitation, organizational, and collaboration skills necessary to effectively present, explain, influence, and advise senior management and/or external sponsors.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Extensive experience and broad knowledge of WCI and the major laboratory programs.
  • Significant experience interpreting and implementing Laboratory policies, procedures, and practices.
