We have an opening for a Postdoctoral Researcher to conduct research on modeling the microphysical processes of aerosols in the troposphere and the stratosphere. You will be pursuing original research on predictability and uncertainty of the microphysical processes of aerosols. This position is in the Atmospheric, Earth & Energy Division.

Essential Duties
- Conduct creative research using multiphase flow analysis using predictive modeling capabilities for droplet and/or particle-laden flow.
- Conduct creative research on modeling of droplet and particle formation processes
- Conduct original research to develop predictive capability for a range of dense and dilute phase fractions and different phase couplings to address turbulent particle-laden flow.
- Conduct fundamental research on the physics and chemistry of fluid under a range of environmental conditions in the atmosphere.
- Incorporate multiphase physics into atmospheric and multiphysics models for droplet and particle-laden flow on a scale of centimeters to hundreds of meters.
- Document research by publishing papers in peer-reviewed journals, and present technical results within the Department of Energy (DOE) community and at scientific conferences.
- Collaborate with others in a multidisciplinary team environment to accomplish research goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Recent Ph.D. in Chemical, Civil/Environmental, Petroleum, Nuclear or Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Geophysics, Atmospheric Science, or a closely related discipline.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: modeling of particles and/or droplets, analysis of physics and chemistry of dust and debris, or processes meaningful to turbulent debris transport.
- Experience working with model and observational datasets.
- Proficient in at least one scientific programming language for modeling and data analysis (e.g., Python, Fortran, C++).
- Experience with visualization and analysis programs.
- Ability to effectively perform independent research, and travel as required to collaborate with sponsors.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills, as evidenced by published results and presentations.
- Experience collaborating effectively with a team of scientists of diverse backgrounds.
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of radionuclides, radioisotopic chemistry, the atmosphere and earth systems.
- Experience using super-computers and UNIX/LINUX.
- Experience in uncertainty quantification and statistics.

Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance: This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note: This is a 2 year Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of 3 years. Eligible candidates are recent PhDs within five years of the month of the degree award at time of hire date.
