The Weapons Subsystems 1 group is looking to add a new member to the team! We are seeking an Electrical Engineer (R&D Electronics Engineering) to be a part of our multidisciplinary team in designing and developing advanced electronic subsystems.

This is a highly collaborative work environment where successful candidates will create innovative solutions for difficult technical problems and acquire increasing levels of responsibility. The general responsibilities will range from conceptual design, detailed design (a combination of analog, digital, embedded firmware, schematic capture, board layout), analysis, overseeing fabrication of hardware, defining and executing test plans, integrating hardware, and providing field support.

The Electrical Engineer will work cooperatively with representatives from other internal organizations as well as external production facilities and suppliers.

An Electrical Engineer at Sandia:

+ Works as part of a multi-disciplinary team whose task will be to define requirements, create the subsystem design, implement quality design methodology, build and evaluate prototypes, test subsystems, and support full-up system integration testing
+ Designs low-power mixed-signal electronics subsystems with high reliability requirements that must operate in extreme environments
+ Performs low-power discrete analog design, modeling/simulation of analog electronic subsystems, analog circuit buffer design, and analog IC design
+ Performs hands-on test and debug of circuitry
+ Develops documentation of a given design and gives technical presentations to peers/managers
+ Designs and develops specific manufacturing design requirements (i.e. PC board material, trace impedances, routing requirements, PC board stack-up, etc.) and oversees the manufacturing of PC boards
+ Develops a system-level understanding of the collected data and supports anomaly resolution


+ Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field of study; or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field of study plus four or more years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
+ Demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented environment
+ Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to influence others
+ Ability to obtain DOE Q level security clearance
+ Ability to travel up to 25%


+ Current DOE Q or DoD Top Secret clearance
+ Experience in low-power analog circuit design
+ Experience in digital firmware design for FPGA and/or ASIC applications
+ Experience working with SPICE and/or MATLAB simulation of electronic circuits
+ Hands-on experience testing and debugging circuitry, with clear mastery of tools such as oscilloscopes, logic/network/spectrum analyzers, function/pulse generators, etc.
+ Ability to balance competing priorities and deadlines
