We are seeking an R&D Electrical FPGA/Embedded Design Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team that is designing, developing and sustaining advanced inertial and avionics systems for national defense programs. General responsibilities for electrical engineers range from conceptual design, detailed design (a combination of analog, digital, embedded software, FPGA firmware, schematic capture, printed circuit board layout), analysis, overseeing fabrication of hardware, defining and executing qualification/testing plans, and system integration.

The successful candidate will work within our department designing detailed digital and analog circuits to support our current work. Digital designs may include the utilization of microcontrollers, FPGA/SOCs, micro-processors, or GPUs within the designs. Analog designs can range from interfaces to various sensors, amplifier design, analog to digital conversion, digital to analog conversion, or motor control interfaces. As the successful candidate, you will be designing embedded processor-based systems for various applications.

Required:

+ Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering or related STEM discipline, plus 5 years of relevant experience
+ Experience designing, developing, analyzing, delivering electronic digital and analog hardware designs.
+ Experience in one or more of the following application areas: controls, image processing, or signal processing theory
+ The ability to acquire and maintain a Q level security clearance

Desired:

+ Doctorate (PhD) Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering or related STEM discipline
+ Experience with ECAD software such as Mentor Graphics Design Suite, Altium, OrCAD, or other ECAD tools for the purpose of creating electronics schematics, design layout, printed circuit board-level and/or component level circuit designs
+ Experience with designing for harsh environments
+ Ability to perform hands-on testing and de-bugging of circuitry, with clear mastery of tools such as oscilloscopes, logic/network/spectrum analyzers, function/pulse generators
+ Experience creating and testing prototypes to prove out designs
+ Experience developing digital designs for high speed serial interfaces
+ Experience with either FPGA firmware or embedded software driver development to test designs
+ Experience with electronic circuit simulation to support design development and verification
+ Knowledge of VPX, System on Module, or COTS custom design a plus

Department Description:

The Inertial Systems and Avionics (5325) develops and delivers innovative computing solutions for Navigation Systems, Specialized Radars & Missile systems. Our department specializes in reconfigurable digital signal processing systems utilizing leading edge FPGA technology, general purpose microprocessors, and high-speed serial communication devices. Our Inertial Systems interface with various Navigation technologies such as Inertial Measurement Units, Gyroscopes, Accelerometers, and GPS receivers.
