We are hiring a Sr. Electrical Engineer to join our Engineering team!

Are you a skilled electrical engineer interested in improving the end-user experience for our customers? As Sr. Electrical Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to be a trailblazer in Printed Circuit Boards (PCB)/schematics for our industry-leading products such as Endless Pools®, Hot Spring® Spas, Caldera® Spas, Freeflow Spas®, and Fantasy Spas®. We’ll look to you to design and drive the PCB for all our consumer, automation and diagnostic products and take ownership of the entirety of the PCB Development lifecycle for multiple boards, including specification, component selection, layout oversight, prototyping, debugging and verification testing. In addition to helping re-invent and re-imagine electronic solutions for our customers, you’ll create, guide, and manage workflow for the entire engineering design process, which will be critical to helping us maintain business continuity.

  • Do you have excellent design skills? Using your solid engineering foundation, you will customize the legacy designs you inherit and support them throughout their respective life cycles. You’ll also study, modify and repurpose hardware designs made publicly available by companies such as Cypress, Microchip and NXP. Working across all our brands, you will specify PCB components to meet outdoor domestic, export and industrial environment requirements.
  • Do you enjoy innovating with the goal of improving the customer experience? You will propose innovative new designs for the sensors, particularly microscale sensors, in our electronic components, emphasizing ease-of-use and serviceability for our end users.
  • Can you see around the corner? You will develop electronic test and verification fixtures to be used by the vendors that supply our boards. You will write low-level firmware and test scripts in Python to assign limitations to our components.
  • Do you have strong relationship-building skills? You will work within the larger Engineering team on various projects, presenting updates as needed, occasionally participating in design reviews, and consistently meeting project timelines and deadlines. You will also negotiate with suppliers, work with open source hardware design providers, and manage fabrication/PCB vendors working on our units.
  • Do you have a passion for documentation? You will have the opportunity to design Engineering workflow from scratch to help drive process improvement, for streamlined change management and product launch workflow.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science is required. A Master’s Degree is a plus.
  • At least 5-7 years of directly related experience. The equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, especially depending on the level of degree.
  • Experience working in manufacturing and consumer goods industries, such as domestic appliances is preferred. Experience working with electromechanical systems such as sensors, actuators, circulation pumps, motors, solenoids and thermostats, and/or high voltage electronics such as power supplies, relay systems, and heaters is a plus.
  • Strong proficiency in Electronic CAD tools such as Mentor Graphics PADS Professional and/or Altium Designer is required.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels within the organization as well as a strong ability to work in a team environment, are required to be successful in this position.
  • This is a remote opportunity, must have a willingness and ability to travel (once safe to do so) once a month to our Vista location and on occasion domestically and internationally.
  • Knowledge and experience in building test equipment, debugging circuit boards, and using standard electronics lab equipment (i.e. Hi-Pot testing, Logic analyzers, Signal Integrity analysis).
  • Experience working with Micro Electric Mechanical Systems (MEMS) scale electronics and/or Electrochemical systems such as batteries preferred.

We look for candidates that exhibit The Watkins Way (always Ethical, endeavors to be Transparent, embraces Inclusion, welcomes Diverse backgrounds and perspectives, Accommodating, believes in Work-Life Balance, puts Safety First, Accountable, values Relationships, Passionate, Team Player, and Goal Driven).
