Electromechanical Technologist - Secure Mobile Transport (Early/Mid-Career)

The MGT Technical Basis Department (06652) is engaged in a focused assembly, integration, test, analysis, and overall qualification effort for the Mobile Guardian Transporter (MGT) program, the next generation over-the-road secure transportation platform. The department's efforts help ensure the security of our nation's critical strategic assets during transportation. We develop and implement qualification solutions for the MGT program at the System level, and support subsystem qualification and system verification efforts. We are responsible for system-level development test article build and test activities.

We are seeking highly-motivated Electromechanical Technologists to join our team to support System-level and subsystem-level assembly, test and qualification efforts.

The selected individual will have opportunities and responsibilities such as the following:

+ Work in an exciting, dynamic and fast-paced environment where you can make a visible contribution to the national security posture of the United States.
+ Perform hands-on assembly, in-process testing, and system-level testing of full-scale MGT prototypes, and other electronics laboratory work (cable fabrication, electronics troubleshooting, use of common lab test equipment)
+ Participate in the planning, setup and configuration of testbeds with integrated electronics modules and electromechanical parts
+ Work closely with engineers on the Qualification team, and with partner teams, to define tasks and then carry out those activities, by working autonomously and as part of a technologist team
+ Support the planning efforts for and execution of system-level and electrical / mechanical subsystems-level hardware qualification activities, including functional and environmental testing (on-site and off-site) and development of associated test specifications and plans


+ Associates degree or certificate in electronics (or related field); or equivalent experience and education (4 years experience)
+ Extensive hands-on electromechanical experience, such as with electronics assembly/fabrication, cable fabrication, splicing, soldering
+ Knowledge of and experience with electrical design, fabrication, installation, testing
+ Can obtain a DOE Q clearance
+ This position will have occasional travel


+ Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn new skills, new technologies, and develop solutions based on project needs
+ Proven ability to handle multiple assignments, to partner with other technologists and with management/project leads,
+ Ability to work with various organizations and individuals across the laboratory
+ Relevant ESD skills and training
+ Experience with environmental tests of electronic hardware, with clear formal documentation of results
+ Experience or familiarity with data acquisition systems, field testing, and installation of transducers to include pressure gauges, strain gauges, accelerometers and thermocouples
+ Ability to complete work on time consistently and with minimal guidance
+ Proven oral and written communication skills
+ Ability to function well in a diverse, team-focused, fast-paced environment with changing requirements
+ Active Q Clearance

Department Description:

We engage in forward-planning in preparation for the transition of build activities to the Production Agency. Our partners for analysis/test/qualification activities include multiple departments in 6600, 1500, and 2000.
