Job Description

The Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) is currently seeking a part-time student research assistant in the Electronic Systems Integration Division (ESID) for Fall 2018. ESID researches existing and emerging military systems, primarily avionics, used to protect US and allied aircraft. ESID develops a wide range of products that range from embedded computers that fly on military aircraft to software applications that conduct data analysis and visualization. ESID also provides services to sponsors that include test and evaluation, algorithm development, and systems engineering activities associated with the integration of avionics systems. The student will work under the guidance of GTRI researchers performing one or more of the following activities:

  • System design and integration
  • System engineering
  • Software design and development, primarily for embedded systems
  • System and software test and validation for critical systems
  • Sensor data correlation

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or similar technical area 
  • Must be registered for at least 6 credit hours with your university
  • Must have a 2.0 or higher GPA

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to perform assigned research independently
  • Ability to prioritize tasks while working on multiple projects
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong math skills and ability to learn complex engineering concepts
  • Experience in 1 or more programming languages
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas to non-technical people

Hours per Week

10-20 hours per week

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
