We are looking for a dynamic and adaptable Electronics Designer to support the Advanced Electronics and Photonics Research Centre. The Electronics Designer would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

 

The primary responsibility of the Electronics Designer is to support the goals of NRC and the Research Centre through research of international calibre and the development and application of advanced technologies. He/she works in a team environment with researchers and technical experts in world-class facilities. Activities also include the development of proposals for new research initiatives, and providing service to NRC clients. He/she provides input into the overall direction and research priorities for the program area within the context of the Research Centre business plan.

 

The Electronics Designer is responsible for the design, modelling, prototyping, and testing of analog and digital electronic circuits and systems including printed electronic circuits. He (she) will work closely with device developers, industrial clients and other team members to develop custom electronics to meet the needs of a wide variety of R&D and industrial applications.

 

 

Requirements

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.  A Bachelor degree in Physics or Engineering as well as related experience could be considered.

Experience

  • Significant experience in the design, simulation (using SPICE or other electronics circuit simulator) and prototyping of analog and digital circuits.
  • Significant experience in system level integration and design including sensor systems.
  • Significant experience in microprocessor and/or FPGA development tools and programming as well as programming in C, C++, MATLAB or LabVIEW.
  • Significant experience in R&D activities such as experimental design, data production and analysis.
  • Significant experience in reporting through written documentation, presentations or publishing and patenting.
  • Supervisory, project management and proposal development experience are considered an asset.
  • Experience in working in multi-disciplinary teams is considered an asset.

Technical Competencies

  • Solid knowledge of analog and digital electronics including design, modelling, simulation and testing.
  • Solid knowledge in system level integration and design including sensor systems.
  • Solid knowledge of microprocessor and/or FPGA development tools and programming as well as programming in C, C++, MATLAB or LabVIEW.
  • Solid knowledge of semiconductor devices and circuits.
  • Basic knowledge of PCB design, assembly and prototyping.
  • Basic knowledge of Integrated Circuit design including software tools.
  • Basic knowledge of RF circuit design and testing is considered an asset.
