We seek an electronics/communications/network technician to join a multidisciplinary team that is designing and developing advanced components, subsystems, and systems for national defense programs, homeland security, and non-defense applications. These engineering teams employ state-of-the-art technologies, including software tools for design, analysis, modeling, and simulation.



You will work with a dynamic group of field test support personnel to ensure the successful completion of the Laboratories flight test mission. Members of this team are responsible to the Range Manager for activities that maintain the Range’s suite of instrumentation in a test ready status. All team members are expected to assume numerous roles and be willing to learn the principles of operation of telemetry, radars, optics, and communications systems. Each member is trained and qualified to perform an operational role during test activities. Assisting in the development of the future Range systems is integral in the responsibilities of each team member. Each team member is responsible for following established range processes and procedures to ensure that all compliance requirements regarding the operation, facilities and infrastructure are met with quality. Incorporation of all corporate safety and work planning processes are inherent in this activity.

We are seeking an electronics technologist to work at the Tonopah Test Range, NV. Applicants must have the ability and willingness to work/stay at a remote site location for 3-4 days per week and work independently and as well as part of a team. Must be capable of and demonstrate behaviors that reflect Sandia's core values.



Note: This position is located at the Tonopah Test Range (TTR), near Tonopah, NV. Transportation is provided to TTR from Tonopah or Las Vegas.



Primary Duties & Responsibilities



The TTR Infrastructure/Communications/Network project team is seeking an experienced electronics technologist with specialization in one or more of the following fields: network administration, systems administration, telecommunications, and/or IT support. The qualified applicant will have demonstratable knowledge and familiarity with various technologies, as well as the desire to learn others including, Copper/fiber infrastructure, LAN/WAN Networking, analog/digital/VoIP telecommunications, wireless/RF communications, and desktop support in a mixed OS environment. Qualified applicants will be expected to: troubleshoot discrete component technology without the aid of schematics, integrate new technology with existing systems, develop procedures and documentation, and be able to set-up and calibrate equipment. An understanding of PC-based control and data acquisition systems is desired.



On any given day you may be called upon:





+ To serve as an electronics/communications/network technician and have responsibilities in more than one functional area including: electronics, telecommunications, instrumentation, and network infrastructure.



+ To install, operate, and maintain a wide range of data, voice, and video systems essential to conducting live flight and ground tests.



+ To maintain, support, and troubleshoot a wide variety of TCP/IP-based data acquisition, transmission, and storage systems, as well as PC-based systems and associated peripherals.



+ To perform systems analysis, monitor relevant system health metrics, perform diagnostic troubleshooting, and lead repair/recovery efforts.



+ To interface with new and existing customers to understand and implement operational requirements and to tailor the systems and configurations to support mission requirements.





Qualifications We Require:





+ High school diploma minimum as well as technical education in the Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, Information Technology, or other relevant field of study or:



+ Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of some education credentials but is not guaranteed.







+ Demonstrated experience with OSI Model Layers 1-4 technologies. This should include experience with various architectures (e.g. low-level electrical signals, RF communications, wired networks, etc.) and operating systems, including all aspects of installation, testing/troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of associated IT and communications infrastructure and equipment.



+ Minimum four (4) years of directly relevant and verifiable hands-on experience with integrated and networked communications, data, network (wired and RF-based), and/or voice communications systems.



+ Ability to obtain a DOE Q-level security clearance





Qualifications We Desire:





+ Associates degree in relevant field.



+ Experience with OSI Model Layer 1-7 technologies.



+ Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) Certification; Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Certification, or applicable networking certifications.



+ Verifiable technical education/training in Electronics, Computer and/or communications systems, Information Technology, or other relevant fields of study.



+ Ability to conceptualize and communicate major elements of network/communication system design as well as the ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, layouts, and other related specifications.



+ Ability to research and investigate alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems affecting electronic, networking, computing, or other systems and equipment.



+ Ability to prepare systems or equipment to performance tests and generate reports.



+ Remote/austere field working environment experience.



+ Proficiency with bash/batch scripting.





About Our Team:



Department 7235 is charged with the operation of the Tonopah Test Range. The Range team is responsible for planning and executing the Flight Test portion of the Stockpile Surveillance program. Additionally, a requirement exists to plan and execute tests in support of other Federal Agencies.

Security Clearance:
