Electronics Technologist-Advanced Fuzing Technology (Entry/Mid-Career)

The Advanced Fuzing Technology \(02627\) Department has an opening for a motivated and dedicated R&D Electronics Technologist to support the fabrication, testing and realization of electrical components for Department of Defense \(DoD\) technology development programs and internal Sandia customers\.

Your work will include partnering with engineering designers to build, populate and test designs of specialized firing sets for use in embedded fuzes and firing sets\. Department 02627 also has significant partnerships with other Sandia centers and is responsible for electronic component design for various flight experiments for internal SNL SPP customers to support DoD programs\. Our department builds, tests and qualifies flight worthy hardware for missile development programs, and your work will include supporting build and test activities for these types of programs\.

You will work independently and with multi\-disciplinary teams across organizational boundaries \(both internal and external to Sandia\)\. You will be self\-motivated and directed, customer\-focused and adaptable to working in a fast\-paced team environment\.

On any given day you may be asked to:

+ Support the fabrication, population and testing of printed circuit boards with high voltage components and small discrete electrical components
+ Perform soldering work in accordance with standards such as J\-STD\-001
+ Test and inspect the quality of electrical component soldering work per IPC\-610 standards
+ Troubleshoot electronic hardware and re\-work boards to correct defects in designs or replace faulty components
+ Build and test cable assemblies, including adapters to support testing of electrical components based on custom tester designs
+ Read schematics and setup a proto\-board or bread\-board design of a circuit for testing
+ Perform basic signal integrity measurements and tests on high speed digital designs
+ Some travel and occasional overtime may be required


+ Associates or higher degree in Electronics, Mechanical, Electromechanical or related discipline, or equivalent combination of experience and education
+ Able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q\-Level security clearance


+ Bachelors Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering or a relevant technical discipline
+ Experience with automated tester design, specifically LabView development experience with NI Test Stand and other NI products including PXI\-Chassis and related hardware
+ Experience with soldering and inspection standards such as J\-STD\-001 and IPC\-610
+ Experience with printed circuit board design tools and processes, including schematic capture, and PCB layout and routing\.
+ Experience in electronics testing and debugging, including ability to read schematics and test basic design functionality with lab instruments \(multi\-meters, oscilloscopes, etc\.\)
+ Demonstrated ability to work in a team driven environment, across a wide variety of disciplines \(software, hardware, mechanical, packaging, etc\.\) to integrate designs into a system
+ Demonstrated ability to work in a self\-directed manner to meet hardware build milestones
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills
+ Active DOE Q\-level security clearance
+ Ability to obtain and maintain Sigma 15 access

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
