We are seeking a driven Electronics Technologist to join our diverse and growing Hardware Assembly and Functional Electrical Testing team for the 5970 group. In this exciting role you will be performing a variety of tasks including hardware support and integration and test activities in support of sensor system development and qualification at the system and subassembly levels. In addition, you'll collaborate with engineers who are responsible for system requirements, design, assembly, and qualification. This position also involves participating in both laboratory and field-testing operations which require travel.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Perform detailed device characterization and performance measurement
+ Research and resolve inconsistencies with design, test, or materials
+ Troubleshoot analog and digital circuits, developing and testing hypotheses
+ Perform IPC Class 3 inspection and assembly/rework as needed
+ Design and configure automated test sequences with custom HW/SW solutions
+ Develop, document, and execute hardware checkout procedures for embedded microelectronics boards and subsystems
+ Support integration and qualification of hardware at system and subassembly level, aiding in the development of methods and procedures, and ensuring complete documentation consistent with program quality practices
+ Ensure that requirements are implemented, and review change accounting activity to ensure compliance with engineering document control policies
+ Update engineering documents, such as drawings, reports, and specifications, for an assigned program; process engineering change orders; and administer identification, control, and accounting activities for systems, components, and equipment, in accordance with requirements
+ Compile release packages and build documentation of subsystems and systems to ensure clear understanding of as built definition, ensuring all documentation is present in accordance with existing mission assurance requirements
+ Notify appropriate project team members of any new or updated data that may influence qualification and acceptance readiness
+ Oversee laboratory operations and maintain usability of lab spaces, associated equipment, and associated Corporate documentation
+ Develop and Maintain ES&H documentation associated with lab, field, and hazardous material activities


+ High school diploma plus three or more years of directly relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
+ Experience with sensors, instrumentation, and data acquisition and/or test equipment
+ Soldering and circuit board assembly experience
+ Experience in assembly, integration, test, and troubleshooting of electrical assemblies at the system and/or subsystem levels
+ Experience working with classified and/or hazardous materials/hardware
+ Holds (and can maintain) an active DOE Q-level (or collateral) or DOD equivalent and SCI security clearance
+ Ability to travel up to 25% to support functional electrical testing and program needs


+ High school diploma plus five or more years of directly relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
+ IPC Class 3 certification for hardware assembly and inspection
+ Experience working in laboratory and field environments
+ Experience with work planning, controls, and security requirements to ensure compliance of laboratory operations
+ Experience with hardware and/or software testing
+ Experience with LabView, Python, and BenchVue
+ Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Department Description:

The Proliferation Assessment Center enables the national security missions of the defense and intelligence communities to reduce threats to our nation by applying engineering expertise to develop solutions to some of the nation’s most challenging technical problems. The Tailored Operational Support Group is involved in the program management and development of technologies as part of the Proliferation Assessment Center at Sandia. We provide research, design and development of innovative technologies and sensing systems and technical assessments complemented by intelligence-based analysis. Our teams are diverse technically and reach out to an extended network at the laboratories to address and assess critical national security issues with a multi-disciplinary approach. The departments in Group 5970 tackle a variety of technical projects from concept to design, development, delivery, sponsor training, and support of products.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) SCI security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access, both of which require US citizenship. SCI access may also require a polygraph examination. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain these levels of access may be impacted.
