Job Description

The Applied System Laboratory (ASL) of the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is hiring an enthusiastic embedded software developer interested in supporting the development of Board Support Package and drivers (MIL-STD-1553, ARINC-429, Ethernet, and discrete) for Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS).  You will analyze, design, and develop software stack running on various multi-core embedded target systems that meet DO-178C safety and security requirements. As part of a team, you will participate in the development of a software artifacts in support airworthiness analysis and certification.  As part of the effort, you will also be responsible for specifying, implementing (C, C++, Python), and testing your SW components.  Effort will be in support for system design and analysis for the Army Aviation platforms, handling embedded and aviation based interfaces.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist/Associate II

  • A Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or other related technical field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in
  • Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or other related technical field of study 
  • and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in
  • Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or other related technical field of study.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Automotive, industrial, or aviation work experience.
  • Excellent skills and practice in programming with one or more software languages; C, C++, C#, Ada for embedded systems.
  • Debugging skills and practice in the use of debugging tools and hardware measurement equipment
  • Software development processes for Flight-Critical and Safety-Critical Software; Rhapsody, DOORS, SCADE, etc.
  • Experience in the domain of control interfaces like ARINC-429, CAN, Ethernet, I2C, I2S, MIL-STD-1553, SATA, SPI, UART, USB, and such
  • Experience with low-level programming of microcontrollers, use of GPIO, interrupt configuration, use of DMA, hardware debuggers, JTAG
  • Experienced BIOS, UEFI and SEC and all the BIOS phases
  • Understanding of interrupts, security, EXE bootloader, stages
  • Very good communication skills in written and spoken English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Programming skills in Python script language is a plus
  • Functional Safety development experience
  • Working knowledge of RTOS's including Green Hills, QNX, VxWorks, or LynxOS
  • System Safety and Software Safety requirements IAW MIL-STD-882, JSSSEH, AMCOM REG 385-17, SAE ARP 4754, SAE ARP 4761, IEC 61508, ISO 26262
  • Open Group Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE) standard experience
  • Working knowledge of Agile SW development methodologies
  • Experience with Logic/Bus Analyzers
  • Familiarity with debugging and programming
