Job Description

The Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) System Engineering Division (SEN) is currently seeking an Embedded Software Engineer for a full-time research position. This position supports design, development, implementation, and testing of a variety of software applications for embedded processing in RF Electronic Warfare (EW) systems. This may include applications dealing with signal processing, data communications, system security, mission data, embedded operating system improvements and external support tools. This position will work closely with hardware and firmware engineers to ensure system functionality.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Integrate multiple software applications internal and external to embedded systems
  • Develop and improve PC software supporting end systems and applications (bare metal or RTOS based) for embedded processors
  • Design and execute software unit and integration tests
  • Drafting, updating, and maintaining software design documents, interface documents, source code comments, and change control documents
  • Design algorithms for RF EW systems
  • Serve as technical expert on assigned projects and systems to include latest industry standards, system interfaces, engineering tools, and road maps for current and future updates
  • Participate in technical meetings with sponsors and industry collaborators
  • Develop technical papers for conferences and present briefings to potential sponsors
  • Perform other duties as assigned

10% - 25% travel

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist I

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist II

  • A Master’s degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree; or
  • A Master’s degree and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree; or
  • A Doctoral degree in Aerospace, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related field

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s degree program relevant to this position will be considered. Candidate must have a graduation date of no later than December, 2019
  • Experience developing embedded software for computer or Radio Frequency (RF) equipment
  • Minimum 1 year of applicable experience in a technical field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with embedded software development (C, C++, Ada, Assembly)
  • Experience with testing and debugging software
  • Experience with real time operating systems (VxWorks, GreenHills, Embedded Linux, etc)
  • Experience with Systems on Chips architectures (Zynq, Stratix, RFSOC, etc)
  • Experience with Electronic Warfare systems
  • Experience with Atlassian toolset (JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket)
  • Active SECRET clearance

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.
