GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. is currently seeking a seasoned Technical Professional to lead our Business Development activities in the Energy Sector as a mechanism to drive growth in the Upper Midwest region of the U.S. GZA presently enjoys a strong foothold in this market in the northeast region of the U.S. but desires to leverage its experience and breadth of services as a primary catalyst for growth in the Midwest. Ideally, this individual has had career-level engagement in the Energy Sector and has built relationships through his or her strengths in problem solving, client management, and understanding power generation economics and industry trends.  Note: Although this posting lists Chicago as the location, this candidate could also sit out of any of our offices in Michigan or Wisconsin.

 

This role will include helping to improve GZA’s brand recognition, create Energy-Sector client relationships, generate project opportunities, and sell services primarily within this industry. The role will require critical internal relationship-building with GZA principals and management personnel spread between our offices in Chicago, Milwaukee, Grand Rapids, Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Cincinnati, fueled by a passion to facilitate the success of these operations and GZA as a whole. While GZA services many industry types, we view the Energy Sector as one in which we could significantly benefit from business development leadership.

 

In this Business Development role, he or she will be supported by GZA’s corporate marketing staff and principals already practicing in this market. Further activities will include supporting selective participation in trade shows and conferences, leading proposal efforts and identifying and contributing to technical marketing campaigns.

 

Key Duties

 

  • Responsible for Energy Sector business development planning and goal achievement.
  • Working with Client Sector leads and other Principals, identify new target clients and major projects within the region and develop and implement strategies to capture work from those targets.
  • Promote GZA’s brand identity around its five Core Services within the region through participation in client-oriented committees and conferences
  • Generate leads within the region for all five of GZA’s Core Services –Environmental, Geotechnical, Ecological, Water and specialized Construction Management.
  • Generate leads within the region within several of GZA’s Client Sectors, including but not limited to the Energy sector.  GZA’s Client Sectors are oil & gas, power, engineers and architects, contractors, attorneys, governmental agencies, industry, infrastructure projects, institutions, and real estate.  
  • Provide recommendations to office managers on technical staffing needs and appropriating resources to meet the needs of Energy-Sector clients and prospects.
  • Assist GZA management in identifying strategic acquisition targets that would strengthen and enhance our competitive position with key clients.
  • Work with Major Account Executives to develop and expand client relationships.
  • Travel extensively throughout the Midwest region to promote interactions with Senior GZA staff as well as existing and target clients.

 

Objectives Include

 

  • Directly selling work to clients as measured by signed contract/contract extensions.
  • Creating opportunities in the marketplace for GZA that result in sales by others at GZA.
  • Improving GZA’s brand recognition in the marketplace around its five Core Services

Requirements

Qualifications

 

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree plus 12 years’ experience or Master’s Degree plus 10 years’ experience.
  • Degree must be from an accredited engineering, scientific or construction management program.
  • 10+ years of experience in a professional services firm/practice.
  • Successful experience selling work within at least one of GZA ‘s Core Services.
  • Successful experience selling work within at least one of GZA’s geographic target areas within the region. GZA’s geographic target areas within the region are the Ohio River Valley, the greater Milwaukee/ Chicago area and the Buffalo/ Detroit area.
  • Strong relationships within, and understanding of, the Energy sector. Relationships within, and understanding of, other GZA Client Sectors are a plus.
  • Strong writing and verbal communication are also fundamental.
