Raytheons Directed Energy Group is part of Raytheon Technologies Advanced Technologies (AT) product line, providing comprehensive, end-to-end HPM system solutions for various customers throughout the Department of Defense.

Raytheons Directed Energy Group consists highly motivated, ambitious individuals with expertise in the areas of prime power engineering, pulsed power design & engineering, High Power Electromagnetic (HPM) source design & engineering, novel antenna design & engineering, and diagnostics and effects testing. The Directed Energy Group reaches through and collaborates with numerous groups throughout Raytheon Technologies, collaborating with engineering, sensor development and diagnostics; control and data acquisition systems, software and automation, materials fabrication, assembly.

The HPM Effects Expert & HPM Generalists primary duties will be to leverage their extensive and deep knowledge of HPM system effects and general knowledge of HPM systems to assist the Directed Energy Group in the design, development, fabrication, validation, and improvement of Raytheon Technologies HPM Systems. The HPM Effects Expert & Generalist will work strongly with all elements of the Raytheon Directed Energy Group, providing strong communication, subsystem management, and early R&D product development skills to upgrade, manage, monitor, and design novel HPM Systems. Additional duties may include leadership of project teams, management and leadership of effects testing processes and efforts, monitoring and executing experiments to determine and validate HPM system efficacy, technical report preparation, delivering presentations to customers, and technical proposal development. The candidate will work closely aside Engineering Fellows and other key project team members to determine, guide, and build to optimal design parameters to meet HPM system key performance parameters. The primary work location will be on-site at the Raytheon Tucson office, some travel will be required to meet and work with vendors and to support testing and other activities as needed.

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position needs an active U.S. Security Clearance as of day one of employment.

Required Skills & Experience
  • Masters of Science in one of the following fields: Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics
  • A minimum of 12 years of experience in the development of advanced technologies.
  • A minimum of 12 years of experience with HPM effects and general (all) principals of HPM systems such as prime power, pulsed power, HPM source and antenna subsystems design considerations.
  • Experimental experience with HPM effects testing, HPM system diagnostics, HPM system performance validation, HPM system safety laws & regulations and HPM hazards, through one or all of the following:
    • Minimum of five publications in topics related to HPM effects or HPM systems.
    • Minimum of fifteen years experimental experience in HPM effects
    • Minimum of ten years of experimental experience validating antenna performance design parameters (directivity, cross pole contamination, beam width, etc.)
  • 10 years of experience leading small teams in design, development and/or fabrication of advanced technologies.
  • Experience with the basic principles of program management.
  • Experience with some or all of the following software suites: Ansys HFSS, CST Studio Suite, Matlab, Poisson Superfish, ICEPIC, NEC, Wipple-D, or equivalents.
  • Experience with some or all of the following programming languages: C++, Java, Python.
  • Active Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain additional levels of clearance as required

Desired Skills & Experience:
  • Ph. D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics (pure or applied).
  • Active Top Secret clearance
  • Strong history of patents or publications related to HPM systems or HPM system design
  • 30 years of experience in the development of advanced technologies.
  • 20 years of experience with HPM effects & general architecture development of HPM systems
This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Non-US citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance. The Defense Industrial Security Clearance Office (DISCO), an agency of the Department of Defense, handles and adjudicates the security clearance process. Security clearance factors include, but are not limited to, allegiance to the US, foreign influence, foreign preference, criminal conduct, security violations and drug involvement. Employment is contingent on other factors, including, but not limited to, background checks and drug screens.
