Engineering Program/Project Lead (Experienced)

We are seeking a Quality Assurance professional to join our diverse team. The selected applicant will plan and guide the corporate assurance system implementation, coordinating as required with work performed within organization 9213 and other internal Sandia organizations. You will apply assurance principles and advanced Project Management techniques and tools in developing project plans and detailed work breakdown structures, negotiating work packages, resource loaded schedules, and assigning various aspects of work to complete project deliverables.

On any given day, duties and responsibilities could include the following:

+ Defines assurance system and subsystem requirements, project scope, schedules, cost estimates, and deliverables that the implementation of the contractor assurance system.
+ Negotiates deliverables with internal partners, builds and leads teams, and coordinates resources to implement scope.
+ Manages project resources to ensure that deliverables and objectives are met according to the project management plan.
+ Provides leadership and tactical planning for execution of projects and applies assurance expertise knowledge to achieve project objectives and deliverables.
+ Manages changes in project scope using change management plans, identifies potential issues, and devises contingency plans, as necessary.
+ Develops and delivers progress reports, proposals, requirements documentation, and presentations.
+ Conducts project postmortems and utilizes lessons learned for process improvement.
+ Facilitate discussions with Issue owners to drive completion of investigations, causal analysis, impact analysis, and closure of events.


+ Bachelor's degree and 3 years of demonstrated experience in Project Management; or Master's degree plus one year of demonstrated experience in Project Management.
+ Knowledge and background in quality assurance, systems engineering or industrial engineering.
+ Knowledge of project management practices, including developing project plans, work breakdown structures, and work packages; managing to scope, schedule, budget, and baselines; and detailing baseline reports and change control actions.
+ Must have a DOE Q Level or DOD TS security clearance to start.


+ Ability to solve complex problems in the absence of clear direction and initial understanding, and satisfy U.S. Department of Energy and Sandia National Laboratories quality related requirements and expectations.
+ Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to successfully plan, coordinate, lead, and monitor team efforts to completion.
+ Provides assurance expertise support to one or more aspects of the program or project.
+ Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
+ Demonstrated ability to team across disciplines.
+ Strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
+ A subject matter expert in assurance and all core elements.

Department Description:

The Risk, Issues, and Opportunity Management Department (9213) stewards the issues and risk management systems including the approach and tools to identify and evaluate issues and risks. The department provides Sandia and its leadership a framework and process to manage differing levels of issues and risk, monitor lab-level issues and risk, and provide the structure around how to manage issues and risks. The department also houses the corporate team of risk and corrective action domain experts that are available for deployment to assist entities with risk and issues management.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
