What Your Job Will Be Like:

Are you passionate about your work and want to join a dynamic team that solves challenging issues for our nation's security? If so, we are seeking a R&D Laboratory Support Technologist.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Support the daily operations of one or more projects within the Primary Standards Lab.

+ Apply knowledge, experience and technical capability in measurement science and the related systems, equipment, methods, and procedures.

+ Team with other PSL engineers and technologists to solve measurement and quality issues.

+ Support research for the development of new measurement technologies, techniques and procedures.

+ Operate and maintain precision electro-mechanical calibration systems, processing measurement data, performing error analysis, generating certificates and reports.

Travel on a limited basis to support NNSA technical surveillances and related activities.

Qualifications We Require:

+ Associate degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering or equivalent experience.

+ Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

+ Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering plus three or more years of directly related experience.

+ Evidence of good academic performance.

+ Experience in high precision calibrations, particularly in RF / Microwave measurements.

+ Experience with measurement uncertainty calculations and the use of Excel and other statistical analysis software.

+ Experience working within a thorough quality system in lab environment.

+ Desire to learn new skills as required and develop expertise in areas that may be unfamiliar.

+ Experience using Excel, LabView, Python, or Visual Basic.

+ Experience with ISO 17025, Z540, QC-1, NAP-24 or other quality assurance programs.

+ Experience in developing methods, processes, technical work documents and procedures along with software.

+ Experience interfacing personal computers with measuring and test equipment.

+ Experience programming computer-controlled equipment using MetCal, LabView, or Visual Basic.

+ Experience using large, integrated software applications such as Maximo.

+ Already possess a DOE L-level or Q-level security clearance.

About Our Team:

Department 2943, Primary Electrical Standards, provides calibration support to the Nuclear Security Enterprise, including support for SNL research and production organizations. Department 2943 consists of three project groups: DC Electrical, AC Electrical, and Microwave. Each project develops and maintains primary standards, consults on measurement problems, calibrates reference standards, and assists in technical guidance of the DOE/NNSA Nuclear Weapons Complex contractor standards laboratories. The overall calibration program is accredited by the NIST National Voluntary Laboratory Accreditation Program.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
