What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a highly motivated Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H) coordinator with experience implementing ES&H requirements and working in a complex technical environment. You will play a key role as you help build a strong and healthy safety culture at the Labs. In this position, you are responsible for performing a variety of environmental, safety, and occupational health related functions. This is a fast-paced job that offers a great deal of ES&H project diversity.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Partner with staff and management to implement and assure ES&H performance and compliance with corporate safety initiatives and regulatory/policy updates

+ Perform technical analyses and evaluations and advise management on practices to resolve ES&H performance and compliance issues

+ Develop, implement, and communicate organization specific ES&H policies, processes, hazard controls and tools to help staff and management improve safety practices and meet performance expectations

+ Document and report staff and management concerns, findings, non-compliance issues and significant information in corporate data systems and through appropriate management channels

+ Perform regular facility and work area walk-throughs, inspections and/or reviews of existing work planning controls to determine their reliability and effectiveness and implement risk mitigation efforts.

+ Provide support during ES&H audits and assessments, ES&H related events, occurrences, or emergencies to ensure they are adequately investigated, tracked, and corrected

+ Cultivate effective communications and relationships with organization leadership, ES&H organization, and ES&H Coordinator community

Qualifications We Require:

+ Bachelor’s degree in ES&H, science, engineering, math, technology, or other relevant field plus five (5) or more years of experience applying ES&H standards in R&D and/or engineering/construction environments; or equivalent experience

+ Experience with common office software (such as the Microsoft Office Suite - PowerPoint, Excel, Word) and the ability to quickly learn and use a variety of ES&H tools

+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L security clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

+ Master’s degree in STEM or other relevant field

+ Professional certification in a relevant field (e.g., Associate Safety Professional, Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist).

+ Knowledge or training in worker safety and health programs

+ Hands-on experience with chemical and engineering laboratory practices

+ Understanding of applicable OSHA, EPA, NEPA, and DOE regulations

+ Knowledge and experience in performing occupational health, safety, and environmental management related assessments and the development of corrective actions, particularly in a research and development setting

+ Proven understanding of industrial safety standards, equipment, and practices, including but not limited to the following: electrical, laser, pressure, hazardous materials, material handling, radiological and explosives

+ Strong customer focus and ability to work well in a team focused environment.

+ Demonstrated ability to meet and adapt to changing deadlines and priorities

+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance

+ Active DOE L or Q clearance

About Our Team:

The Department provides Occupational Health and Safety Engineering support services to the SNL/CA site and personnel. Support includes: radiation protection, industrial hygiene, chemical management, safety engineering and ergonomics.

Security Clearance:

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
