The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Oakland University invites applications for a tenure track position at the assistant professor level in the broad area of controls. An associate or full professor rank will be considered with appropriate qualifications. The appointment would be effective as early as August 2020.

 

We seek applicants with research and teaching interests related to advanced controls in mobility including, but not limited to, powertrain controls and vehicle autonomy. Successful candidates will be expected to develop an externally funded research program that includes fundamental and/or applied research. The candidate should be able to teach and develop courses in the area of controls at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. An earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field is required.

Oakland University is a nationally recognized doctoral research institution located on 1,443 acres of scenic land in the cities of Rochester Hills and Auburn Hills in Oakland County, Michigan. The University has 132 bachelor's degree programs and 138 graduate degree and certificate programs. Academics include programs in the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business Administration, School of Education and Human Services, School of Engineering and Computer Science, School of Health Sciences, School of Medicine and School of Nursing. The Mechanical Engineering Department has 21 full time faculty members who are dedicated to excellence in research, teaching and service. The department hosts three centers: Center for Advanced Manufacturing and Materials, Fastening and Joining Research Institute, and the Automotive Tribology Center, all of which are active in research.
