Faculty, Tenure-Line - Law, Policy, and Engineering Initiative

Penn State's College of Engineering, Penn State Law, and Penn State's School of International Affairs are engaging in a joint cluster hire of multiple faculty for its new interdisciplinary Law, Policy, and Engineering (LPE) Initiative. The LPE Initiative is administratively housed within the College of Engineering's School of Engineering Design, Technology, and Professional Programs (SEDTAPP) and is a strategic collaborative effort between all three disciplines to meet Penn State's mission of impacting the world and addressing major societal issues. Solutions to many of today's challenges lie at the interface between engineering, policy, and legal constructs. The LPE Initiative will develop and offer an innovative and ambitious set of new degrees, certificates, and courses, supported by cross-disciplinary research and scholarly collaborations that will propel Penn State to national and international leadership. Penn State is uniquely situated to lead due to its internationally recognized engineering programs and unusually nimble and interdisciplinary law and public policy schools. Our proposed new academic programs and offerings will prepare the next generation of leaders and experts who can bring knowledge of engineering, law, and policy together to address complex issues and implement sustainable solutions that require combined engineering, law and policy experience and interdisciplinary scholarship. The first of these programs will be a new resident M.Eng. in Engineering, Law, and Policy (MELP) based in the College of Engineering. Online delivery of program components are expected via Penn State's highly-ranked World Campus. Successful candidates should exhibit a drive to teach, support the development of innovative nationally respected LPE academic programs, pursue impactful interdisciplinary research, and engage in service to the University and Nation. Successful candidates will become an integral part of the graduate faculty. Joint appointments with other engineering departments are expected, and candidates should form collaborations within SEDTAPP's other vibrant programs (see https://www.sedtapp.psu.edu/); the College of Engineering; Penn State Law; the School of International Affairs; other colleges, campuses and institutes at Penn State; and partner with other University entities to leverage a broad base of cooperation. Penn State's College of Engineering strives to build a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for students, staff, and faculty. We rely on the expertise, sensitivity and commitment of an inclusive faculty to enhance diversity, seek equity, and create a welcoming environment within our community. We are committed to nurturing a learning and working environment that respects differences in culture, age, gender, race, ethnicity, physical ability, sexual orientation, and religious affiliation. In welcoming every candidate, we strive to meet the needs of professional families by actively assisting with partner-placement needs. We are inspiring change and impacting tomorrow. Candidates must have an earned Doctorate degree in engineering or a closely related field, that is appropriate to support research and teaching in LPE prior to the start date; be successful working in interdisciplinary settings; and demonstrate ability to seek and secure external funding. Evidence of excellent teaching ability is required. Applications are invited for tenure-track positions at the Assistant, Associate and/or Full Professor levels. Salary and academic title will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Review of applications will begin on 15 November 2019 and applications will be received until positions are filled. Applicants should upload a letter of application, names and contact info for three professional references, curriculum vitae, and statement of research and teaching interests.
