We have an opening for a Flight Test High-Speed Video/Electronics Engineering Associate to support the LLNL Independent Diagnostic Scoring System (LIDSS) operations of high-speed cameras and photographic diagnostics. You will assist with the setup \ deployment of LIDSS, which is a complex system used to capture and record neutron, hydrophone, and optics data to aid in delivery vehicle scoring and help assess weapon performance as part of the Stockpile Stewardship Program weapon certification for US ICBM and Cruise Missile Programs. Much of the work is done at remote locations such as the Kwajalein Atoll, located in the Republic of Marshall Islands, as well as other locations including the Dugway Proving Grounds (Utah), the Broad Ocean Area, and Holloman Air Force Base (New Mexico). This position is in the Defense Technologies Engineering Division (DTED) supporting the Weapons and Complex Integration (WCI) Principal Directorate.

This position will be filled at either the 337.1 or 339.2 level depending on your qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.


Essential Duties
- Provide operational leadership of both DSLR and High-Speed Cameras systems including the design of systems and selection of required lenses, filters, and settings.
- Provide advanced technical solutions to the team for mission planning of camera raft and camera box locations and alignment, testing prior to mission and performing data recovery and reduction after the mission.
- Plan and perform maintenance and tracking of the high-speed cameras, optics lenses, and other optical systems used by the team.
- Develop and maintain mission documentation and records and author operational procedures and technical documents.
- Plan and perform equipment related functional tests and maintenance to ensure system performance requirements and readiness.
- Provide advanced fabrication support of high-speed camera equipment and optical imaging assemblies.
- Provide leadership in the testing of optical camera systems, to include depth of field, exposure, focus, and lens calibration of barrel distortion or pin cushion.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

In Addition at the 339.2 Level
- Act independently and/or direct others to ensure work is conducted in an efficient manner.
- Propose and implement advanced solutions for conducting complex missions in a manner that improves diagnostic capability and quality.
- Utilize imaging software such as Photoshop or Matlab to post process images to extract engineering data and incorporate it into presentations or documents.

Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in electronics, computer engineering or electro-optic technology; or equivalent combination of education and experience in a technical or engineering field.
- Advanced ability to read and follow engineering notes, sketches, and drawings.
- Advanced knowledge of computer equipment and operating systems, including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and computer aided drafting/design software.
- Advanced knowledge of photographic post-processing software and analysis techniques.
- Effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills, with the ability to work constructively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Ability to operate hand/power tools and lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to become medically qualified to wear respiratory and other protective equipment and perform moderate work effort while wearing full-face or half-mask respirators.
- Ability to complete and maintain the following qualifications: radiation generating device operator, Rad Worker (ll), and Beryllium Worker.

In Addition at the 339.2 Level
- Highly advanced technical skills and knowledge of engineering principles to make independent decisions and solve highly complex technical problems using established guidelines, techniques, and procedures.
- Extensive experience working on a technical project team with ability to interpret and execute highly complex assembly procedures from engineering notes, sketches, and engineering drawings and other technical material.
- Highly effective written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills, including feedback and mentoring of less skilled employees, and ability to work collaboratively with all levels of management, technical, engineering, and scientific staff.

Desired Qualifications
- Advanced skills in Adobe Photoshop (or equivalent software), experience with making short videos that highlight technical aspects of a project.
- Experience working with classified materials, documentation, and experimental data.
- Experience working with networked systems and communications. Experience in building maintaining and troubleshooting electro-mechanical systems.
- Photographic experience, with artistic experience in framing a shot beyond camera settings for the purpose of presentations or publications.

Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job related pre-placement medical examination may be required.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance: This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
