The Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) is currently seeking a highly motivated, self-starting The Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) Engineer in the Applied Embedded Systems Division (AES) supports the design, development, and implementation of a wide variety of algorithms in programmable hardware using the latest high-speed/high-density FPGAs and System-on-Chips (SoC). This may include high bandwidth data collection, digital signal processing, data manipulation, custom interfaces, and SoC processor interaction. Additional job functions include developing and integrating the processed data with consumers, including software algorithms that will further refine and manipulate the data.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Analyze system and functional requirements to develop solutions
  • Design, develop and validate firmware (Very High Speed Integrated Circuits- Hardware Description Language (VHDL), Verilog)
  • Develop test benches and simulations to test and validate designs
  • Integrate system components and support equipment in a laboratory and field settings
  • Serve as a technical expert on assigned projects and systems to include keeping up-to-date on industry standards, system interfaces, engineering tools, and road maps for current and future updates
  • Participate in technical meetings with GTRI and sponsor personnel
  • Develop technical papers for conferences, speak publicly, and present briefings to potential customers
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist II

  • A Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience in Hardware Description Language (HDL) development
  • Experience with Xilinx or Altera/Intel FPGAs
  • Experience with debugging and test
  • Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's degree with a graduation date of December 2020 and skills relevant to this position will be considered

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with VHDL
  • Experience with embedded processors such as Microblaze or ARM SoC
  • Experience with embedded software (C/C++)
  • Experience with high-speed digital sampling and processing of Radio Frequency (R.F.) signals
  • Experience developing systems for military or high-reliability applications
  • Active SECRET clearance

U.S. Citizenship Requirements

Due to our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position are required to be U.S. Citizens.
