SUMMARY
As the pioneer and world leader of the oil-free centrifugal compressor product category, the enterprise is dedicated to the design, manufacture, marketing and support of the world’s most efficient commercial refrigerant compressors. The result is the world’s first totally oil-free compressor specifically designed for the HVAC industry.
 
As the Gas Bearing Engineer, the primary work tasks relate to new product development. The nature of the work will be heavily R&D initially. You will be responsible for the development of gas bearing (especially foil bearing) technologies for the new platforms of oil-free compressors to expand the product portfolio, from definition of the customer/product requirements to concept validation and product implementation. The gas bearing technologies are applied in turbo compressors, while various refrigerant gas is used as the lubrication fluid.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 

  • Identify the right gas bearing technologies for the targeted applications.
  • Define requirements for internal as well as external tasks relating to the gas bearing technology development and implementation.
  • Define specifications for design, simulation and testing tools/equipment required to assess the identified gas bearing technologies; ensure the procurement or development of these tools/equipment.
  • Validate the identified gas bearing technologies and designs by modeling, simulations and experiment.
  • Responsible to qualify the identified gas bearing technologies by implementing appropriate testing equipment and testing methodologies.
  • Define and conduct experiments in both characterizing the dynamic properties of the bearings / rotordynamics, as well as reliability.
  • Work with cross functional team to ensure proper integration of the gas bearings with the rest of system.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams within product development, manufacturing engineering and procurement groups to ensure manufacturability, assembly feasibility, serviceability, and reliability.
  • Participate in other new technology research and development projects
  • Deliver design documentation following Turbocor technology and product development processes.
  • Support certification to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, UL and CE and ensure environmental and safety guidelines are applied accordingly.
  • Moderate business travels (including international) is expected in collaboration with supplies and institutions.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

            EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
 

  • Min Master degree, Ph.D is preferred.
  • Min 5 years experiences in foil gas bearing technologies including modeling, testing, and fabrications.
  • Strong interests in commercialization of technologies.
  • Expertise in material selection, manufacturing techniques and assembly methods as required
  • Experience with technical documentation in at least 1 full lifecycle product programs is preferred.
  • Must be detail oriented and self-motivated.

 
 
 
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and write technical documentation and memos in English.
Ability to speak effectively in English before groups of other employees in both technical and non-technical forums.
 
            REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. 
Ability to interpret and understand nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.)
 
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Able to contribute as a member of an organizational project team of engineers. 
Strong analytical and technical skills.
Must have basic project co-ordination skills and a personal drive for making clarity within the area they work with.
