General Technologist (Early/Mid-Career)

We are seeking a qualified Mechanical Technologist to be a member Center 5400 Test and Assembly Laboratories set of technologists\. You will perform a broad spectrum of tasks in managing the everyday operation of the laboratory set\. Your role has the potential to lead into a growth opportunity in design and development, assembly, test, and fielding of aerospace products developed in the Center\. You will also be considered an integral member of a diverse team of technologists\. We strive for continuous improvement through training and mentoring, while developing the lab into a model of excellence\. You may need to travel, possibly for extended periods\.

On any given day, you may be asked to:

+ Manage safety supplies and equipment in the labs, such as eyewash stations, emergency showers, personal protection equipment and other items as needed within the labs\.
+ Maintain and inspect laboratory equipment such as forklifts, cranes and rigging, manlifts, GSA passenger vehicles and other similar pieces of equipment\.
+ Maintain and calibrate laboratory tools including explosives multi\-meters, torque wrenches, and scales\.
+ Take on responsibility for maintaining laboratory supplies including hardware \(nuts and bolts\), chemicals, and disposables that include paper towels, containers, etc\.
+ Support shipping and receiving efforts for large shipments that go over land, air, and sea to reach their destination\.

You will have the opportunity to grow into the following work and beyond:

+ Basic lab operations to include operating forklifts, scissor lift, and cranes, the proper usage and disposal of a wide variety of chemicals, minor machine tool use\.
+ Supporting different levels of projects throughout the lifecycle of the project, from developmental through test\.
+ Working with explosives from component check\-out, to installation and verification, to arming and firing\.
+ Working with pressure systems in a variety of stages of development, from component level to completed systems\.
+ Developing, building, testing, and maintaining pressure systems for flight vehicles as well as a variety of ground support equipment\.
+ Developing test hardware from the design stages through build and use, including the instrumentation and data capture of testing\.

In addition to the listed tasks, the employee may be requested to perform other tasks as needed but they would be within the scope of the listed tasks\. You will be expected to value the members of the team and effectively assist them by developing and implementing the vision and goals for the team, setting high expectations, providing assistance in removing roadblocks to progress, while maintaining a safe, secure, and productive work environment\.


+ You have three or more years of directly related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience\.
+ Your background includes working with technical teams and other technologists to achieve project success\.
+ You have experience in assembly and testing laboratory operations\.
+ Your experience includes mechanical assembly and testing\.
+ You can obtain and maintain a DOE Q\-clearance\.


Your background should also include:

+ Training in explosives operations, including arming and firing operations\.
+ Training in Swagelock equipment, including welders and other tools\.
+ Machine tool operating experience\.
+ Qualified in forklift, scissor lift, and crane operations\.
+ Qualified explosives worker with applicable experience\.
+ Certified pressure worker with applicable experience\.
+ Experience with design software such as Pro\-E, Solid\-Works, Auto\-Cad, and Visio\.
+ Experience with 3\-D printers and their operations\.
+ Previous use of instrumentation that includes strain gages, thermistors, pressure transducers, and diagnostic equipment\.
+ Experience in an aerospace quality laboratory environment with FOD control, ESD control, and other flight hardware protective measures\.
+ Experience working with Center, Division and Corporate quality\-type personnel\.
+ Experience with nonconformance processes\.

Department Description:

We, the Integrated Technical Systems Department, have two components\. Org\. 5403, employs a wide variety of technical staff and technologists that provide technical support in the areas of Mission Assurance; Security; and ES&H, including Work Planning and Control; corporate compliance; and laboratory integration\. Org, 5403\-2, Technical Program Support Team, operates a laboratory complex that provides hardware definition, assembly, ground test, instrumentation, and characterization\. We support programs in the Integrated Military Systems Center\.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.

Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre\-employment drug testing, and a pre\-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications\.
