The Information Systems & Technology (IS&T) team manages key business and technical infrastructure at Apple -- how we take an order online, the experience with technology in our retail stores, how much network capacity we need around the world, the processing of every credit card an iTunes customer uses, and closing the books. IS&T does it all.

Our Global Infrastructure Operations group serves as the central point for monitoring, event management, and coordination/implementation of resolution efforts. We are looking for a highly motivated System Administrator who has the skills and experience to support Apple's Global Infrastructure.

As a member of Apple's Global Infrastructure Operations group, you will be responsible for supporting Apple's Global Compute Infrastructure, maximizing uptime for services such as Pay, iCloud, Music, TV, Maps, News, FaceTime, Siri and more.

Key Qualifications

  • 5+years of experience in Red Hat based Linux/UNIX systems administration medium to large size environments (1,000+ hosts)
  • 5+ years of System Administration experience in cloud stack or VMware environments
  • Proven experience in troubleshooting and isolating Software and/or Hardware issues within the Linux environment
  • 2+years of experience with container orchestration and management technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, Mesos, CRI-O, ContainerD
  • UNIX-related software/scripting development in one or more of the following: Perl, Python, Ruby, Shell
  • Experience with Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Git
  • Ability to work with multiple teams in a cross-functional environment
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, being able to deliver multiple projects of varying lengths, while meeting quality standards and deadlines
  • Ability to maintain composure and customer-service focus in highly stressful situations
  • In addition to the required technical skills, this position also demands good interpersonal skills and an individual who enjoys the dynamic nature of Apple's environment.

Description

As a System Analyst on the Global Infrastructure Operations team, you will network with team members and key contacts to build relationships. You will be responsible for using independent judgment and discretion to interact with internal/external teams through email, chat, and phone to investigate, identify and create solutions in a team oriented and highly challenging work environment. The System Analyst will make recommendations for new processes that improve customer experience by improving the efficiency of operations work and workflows by driving automation and process improvements.

In addition other responsibilities include:
Configure, manage, troubleshoot, isolate and repair various compute hardware platforms, such as HP, Intel, ZT, Inspur, Quanta, Dell, Solaris, IBM

Troubleshoot and isolate HD, DIMM, CPU, NIC, PSU, Sys FAN issues, with the ability to articulate the problem to Break Fix/Smart Hands services

Recognize, identify and respond to failure trends due to hardware, software or configurations to assist or isolate a potentially larger problem

Install, configure and troubleshoot various Firmware issues/configurations, such as BMC, BIOS, HBA Devices, as well as storage technologies and drive formats, such as RAID, NFS, LVM, LUN, EXT, XFS, NFS, iSCSI, Fiber Channel

Configure, manage and troubleshoot Virtual technologies (VMWare, KVM, and XEN) VMWare (vSphere, vMotion, vCenter, vSwitch, HA, Fault Tolerance, Virtual Data Centers, and Snapshots) and SAN technologies (NetApp, and EMC)

Use LOM for configuring, managing and troubleshooting hardware, such as IPMI, iLo, hpILO, DRAC

Manage various authentication and security software and services, such as LDAP, PAM, SSSD, SSH, SUDO, OD, SSH Keys, and Yubi Keys

Education & Experience

BS degree or equivalent experience

Additional Requirements

  • Work hours are variable. This is a 24/7, 365 days per year environment
  • Flexibility to work in shifts based on business need is required
  • Weekend and holiday work required
