Job Description

Georgia Tech Research Institute's Sensors and Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory (SEAL) seeks graduate students to assist Research Engineers with various tasks that may include modeling and simulation, integrated circuit design, and testing. Students should be interested in learning about RF/Microwave IC design or Digital IC design.

This opportunity will allow you to maximize your potential with stimulating work in an inspiring hi-tech research and development environment, alongside passionate colleagues and leaders.

Due to the nature of the work at GTRI, job duties will depend upon contract and sponsor needs. Students could participate in the following projects/tasks:
Assist with and independently perform RF measurements.
Assist with antenna design, simulation, and testing.
Program test equipment to automate measurements.
Produce MATLAB / Python code as directed to perform modeling and simulation.
Assist with RF, Analog, and digital integrated circuit design.
Document and present research results.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Completed Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Pursuing a Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering
  • 3.0 or higher cumulative graduate level GPA
  • Experience using RF/antenna simulation CAD tools
  • Ability to complete an internship prior to completing degree program. Internship period is early/mid-May 2020 through early/mid-August 2020.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A strong interest and motivation to support programs in defense of the national interest
  • Desire to learn HFSS
  • Graduate coursework in RF/Microwave IC design (PA, LNA, VCO, Mixer, etc.) or
  • Graduate coursework related to Electromagnetic and Antennas design or
  • Graduate coursework related to Digital IC design (Logic Synthesis, Floor planning, Synthesis, place and route and how to create GDSII files)
  • Experience with RF measurements and test equipment such as VNAs, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, etc.
  • Experience with EM modeling software such as HFSS, ADS, Sonnet, FEKO, CST, or others.
  • Experience writing code in MATLAB, Python, or other languages.

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance upon hire
