We are seeking a Machinist Trades

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Plan, lay out, fabricate, or modify a wide range of machined products or components in an engineering, res
+ As a condition of employment, Metal Trades positions are represented by the Metal Trades Council \(MTC\) and represented employees must pay the monthly membership dues or agency fee\.earch and development, and/or complex production environment\.


+ Work involves utilizing all types of machine tools, bench and floor equipment, computers and monitoring devices, remote control equipment, and computerized numerical control \(CNC\) machine tools including the use of a high\-density welder to design and to fabricate products from a wide range of materials including explosives\.
+ Responsibilities include manufacturing products from solid models using CAD/CAM software and other computer tools to acquire, exchange and manage data; planning, scheduling and fabricating necessary jigs, fixtures, molds, templates, gauges, cutting and forming tools; collaborating with engineers and serving as a consultant on design and manufacturability issues; and writing and developing cost estimates, reports, process travelers and work instructions/procedures\. Perform work using industry\-standard safety practices\.
+ Provide technical oversight for shop, sub\-shop, and out\-of\-shop fabricate\-to\-print work\. As assigned, act as lead person which includes, but is not limited to, responsibility for making schedule commitment\(s\), assignment of work to coworkers, instructing, consulting, or training others\.
+ Utilize a computerized database to maintain required records
+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance\.
+ Required skills, Physical Assessments, & Certifications:

- Once the applicant has submitted their application and resume, there will be several levels of screening as applicable:

- Skills assessments
- Interview evaluations
- Pre\-employment background reviews \(for external applicants\)
- Drug testing; andPhysical job placement assessments
- Each screening level must be passed successfully and consecutively in order to be eligible for consideration
- A job placement assessment \(JPA\) will be required as part of the screening for this position
- This JPA will evaluate your ability to meet the physical requirements of this job


+ Typical experience includes minimum of 5\-8 years as a fully qualified Machinist Tradesperson and/or completion of a State approved machinist apprenticeship program\.
+ Outline of general scope of work \- no attempt made to include all associated details or duties\.
+ Experience with generating multi\-axis CNC machine tool paths with the capability of driving 2\-5 axes\.
+ Experience with CAD/CAM programming tools for CNC machines such as Solidworks and Surfcam\.
+ Experience with Haas Controllers\. Examples of your contribution in design for manufacturability solutions and design definition review\.
+ Experience teaming to successfully define machining processes and strategies to include collaboration on machining techniques including the design of special tooling and fixtures\.
+ Experience interpreting and fabricating to Geometric Dimensioning and Toleranced definition\.
+ Ability to schedule work and maintain database of jobs\. Excellent communication and teaming skills to effectively work with staff, technologists, and management\. Active DOE Q clearance\.
+ Experience with Solidworks and Surfcam specifically\.
+ Experience with G code\.

Department Description:

The Coatings and Additive Manufacturing Department provides scientific and engineering expertise in the areas of thin films, thermal spray deposition, cold spray deposition, vacuum system/component fabrication, laser machining and surface modification, precision engineering, and additive manufacturing for the Laboratories\. Over 25 elements as well as numerous compounds and alloys can be deposited by sputter deposition and electron beam evaporation\. Thin film properties can also be characterized\. Thermal spray capabilities include both conventional \(flame, plasma, twin\-wire arc, HVOF\) and advanced technologies: cold spray and low pressure plasma spray\. Precision engineering includes the design and fabrication of miniature and meso\-scale devices, electrical discharge machining \(EDM\), diamond and laser machining, laser etching, micro\-metrology, as well as technical consulting\. Additive manufacturing encompasses both direct write \(aerosol ink jet printing, extrusion casting, and conformal printing\) and metal additive \(powder bed and LENS\)\. Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy \(DOE\) granted Q\-level security clearance\.
