The Human Interface Device Firmware (HID FW) team is responsible for delivering high- quality embedded software for embedded systems, custom sensing silicon, and SOC co- processors across all Apple products. Our focus is the human-to-device interface, and we bridge HW and SW to enable the best interaction experience. Our team works with Product Design, Electrical Engineering, Silicon Design, Algorithms, Software, and UI teams to converge on a shippable user experience and embedded architecture while considering things like latency, performance, power, cost, and system constraints. We are looking for a passionate engineering manager to lead a team responsible for module sensing firmware. Ideally, familiar with capacitive sensing and custom sensing ASICs. This team has shipped sensing solutions for iPhones, iPads, and Macs.
Key Qualifications
- Experience leading an embedded software or firmware development team
- Direct experience as a lead delivering embedded software or firmware for a shipping product
- Understanding of SoC-level and / or microcontroller architecture
- Evidence of driving technical innovation
- Effective communication skills (listening and digesting first, then contributing!)
Description
We are looking for individuals who will:
Guide their employees delivery of production-level firmware into constrained sensor stacks and embedded systems
Make strategic technical product decisions that positively affect the engineering team's ability to deliver embedded technologies
Represent the firmware team in cross-functional and executive meetings
Provide employees career-development opportunities and maintain an ongoing
constructive feedback loop with them
Inspire innovation and technical growth in their employees through hands-on mentoring and encouragement
Determine project resource allocation, task assignment, and project scheduling alongside the engineering project manager
Provide annual performance reviews and determine compensation distribution for their employees
Education & Experience
BS or MS in EE/CE/ECE/CS/Mechatronics
Additional Requirements
- 5 + years experience in a lead firmware role and / or >2 + years experience in an engineering manager role
