A wide range of partners in this National initiative share a common vision and are working collaboratively to enable a revolutionary approach to improve cancer science, detect and mitigate biological threats and improve biological understanding through the integration of sensors and experiments, cutting-edge computational simulations, large-scale statistical analysis tools, and bioscience based theory and algorithm development.

We have multiple openings for High School students to work in the Engineering, Computational Science, Weapons and Complex Integration or Physical & Life Sciences part time doing analysis, testing, programming and/or design. You will work directly with a technical supervisor/mentor, who will manage day-to-day assignments, review work, and be available for assistance. These positions are in the Micro & Nano Technology Section in Materials Engineering Division (MED) within the Engineering Directorate, in the Computing Directorate, Weapons and Complex Integration Directorate or in the Physical & Life Sciences Directorate. This will be a four-week internship:
Internship Dates: July 13 - August 6, 2020
Work Week Schedule: 20 hours per week; 8:30 AM 2:00 PM, Monday through Thursday Applications are due by March 27, 2020. Please submit a resume and/or a short essay describing a challenge that you overcame with your application. Essential Duties
- Students will work with scientists, engineers and technical staff members to provide technical and/or research support to projects in one of the following areas: Engineering, Computational Science or Physical & Life Sciences.
- Under close supervision, will participate in research in assigned area.
This can include depending on the assigned area:
- Provide technical and/or research support to projects in the areas of computational science, cyber defense, or computer science
- Conducting analysis and testing of materials
- Gather and analyze data and information in support of scientific research
- Compile research results into a poster presentation
- Compile relevant documentation, including Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs) and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
- Participate in research planning and evaluation discussion
- Present a minimum of one poster on the assignment
- Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications
- Must be currently enrolled in an accredited high school pursuing a high school diploma.
- School experience or demonstrated interest in STEM or related discipline.
- Must be 16 years of age or older by May 1, 2020.
- Demonstrated attention to detail.
- Ability to work under moderate direction within scope of the assignment to achieve the specific goals.
- Verbal and written communication skills to identify problems, pose questions, and report results.
- Ability to interact effectively with coworkers and managers in performing assigned tasks.
- Proficiency in keyboarding and personal computing.

Pre-Employment Drug Test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance: None required.
