Come and join the Intel Module Repair (IMR) at Intel's Ocotillo Campus in Chandler, AZ as a Development Engineer - Robot Specialist.

IMR offers engineering assistance and technical expertise to design, repair, and refurbish semiconductor equipment parts to provide a high quality, cost effective solution for our manufacturing sites.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Specializing in repair, refurbishment, and functionality testing of the following semiconductor wafer-handling robots (Kawasaki, Milara, Brooks, Mitsubishi, Genmark, HDI, IKO, and others) to deliver significant cost savings.
  • Dividing time between research, hands-on lab work, lab sustaining activities, software development, and documentation.
  • Reverse engineer and develop repairs on various models of SCARA (Selective Compliance Assembly Robot Arm or Selective Compliance Articulated Robot Arm) robots commonly used in the semiconductor manufacturing industry, including controller design, repair specifications and procedures, testing procedures, and sustaining product lines.
  • Develop and document robot rebuild procedures, identify, and source spare BOM (Bill of Materials), design test fixtures, determine test criteria and establish quality metrics that meet or exceed OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) standards.
  • Owning a repair development project life cycle through implementation, including physical module teardowns and rebuilds, determination of failure modes and fabrication requirements, reverse engineering both hardware and software, troubleshooting/failure analysis, development of test validation, training of personnel, documentation, ongoing sustaining, and continuous improvement.
  • Developing strong partnerships with key factory and technology development stakeholders, providing excellent customer support, and engaging in continuous stakeholder management.
  • Balancing multiple projects simultaneously to timely completion.

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Qualifications listed as preferred or additional will be considered a plus factor for applicants. Relevant experience can be obtained through school work, classes and project work, internships, military training, and/or work experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Candidate must possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in any Engineering field (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or Robotics majors are preferred.)
  • 2+ years of experience in at least one of the following: electronics and electro-mechanical systems, servo motors, encoders, kinematics, motion control system design, and vibration analysis.
  • 2+ years of experience with industrial controls and software architecture with the skill to reverse engineer robot control software, protocol and command set, and decode ethernet I/P, serial, Dnet/CAN and Ladder logic.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • LabView programming for testing and logging repair performance.
  • Experience working in semiconductor industry as a design/sustaining/equipment engineer with direct responsibilities involving maintenance and troubleshooting of robotic systems.
  • Experience with structured problem solving and project management.
  • Develop custom motion control system for the purpose of enabling lab environment testing of refurbished robots.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of engineering hardware design, fabrication, or testing processes.
  • Identify and work with original equipment and sub-component manufacturers to obtain replacement parts, documentation, etc.
  • Reverse engineer parts and obtain alternatives through third party suppliers.
