Job Description

The Advanced Concepts Lab is seeking a well-rounded Information Systems Architect to work primarily on research projects. This position will take responsibility for the design, procurement, building, and deployment of various types of systems for sponsored research under the mentoring of a senior systems architect. These systems vary in size, composition, function, and requirements. Many of these systems involve Microsoft Windows domains, so strong skills in Microsoft operating systems administration (both server and desktop) is needed.

Additionally, many of these systems will utilize Red Hat Enterprise Linux in the environment, so a strong skill set of administration of a Linux environment is also needed. A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate deep knowledge of the inner workings of both of these operating systems as our use case extends well beyond a normal deployment.

The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance. The candidate will be expected to obtain and/or maintain compliance with DoD 8140-M (which will require a baseline certification of a Security+ and/or a CISSP, additional computing environment certifications are also required). 

Education & Length of Experience

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist I

  • A Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Security, or related field of study.

Research Engineer/Scientist/Technologist II

  • A Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Security, or related field of study and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree,
  • A Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Security, or related field of study and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor’s degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Security, or related field of study.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Security, or related field of study.
  • If Master's degree hasn't been achieved, the willingness to pursue a master’s degree is required.
  • Security + and/or CISSP certification.

Required Skills:

Active Directory, LDAP, Windows domain management, Windows domain creation, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and 7, Mac OS-X, Network Infrastructure (e.g. DNS, DHCP, IPv4, IPv6, firewalls), SCCM and/or Ghost (or other methods of automated system deployment)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Security, or related field of study.
  • If not previously earned and current, the willingness to obtain and/or maintain compliance with DoD 8140-M which requires baseline certification of a Security+ and/or CISSP certification.
  • A solid understanding of networking and network security is a major plus.
  • Experience working federal government contracts is also a major plus.
  • Strong preference will be given to candidates holding active security clearance and certifications in compliance with DoD 8140-M.

Due to our research contracts with the US federal government, candidates for this position are required to be US Citizens.

Clearance Type Required

Ability to obtain Top Secret Clearance upon hire.
