Information Systems Architect (Experienced) Limited Term Employee

We are seeking an Information Systems Architect for novel roles in the operations of Sandia's High Performance Computing clusters, Machine Learning (ML) systems, and Scientific Computing DevOps infrastructure. The position entails both dedicated roles within the teams as well as cross-training among teams in operations such as configuration of containerized environments on HPC systems, administration of advanced ML systems, and development of DevOps infrastructure to facilitate large-scale application runs.

## Day-to-day activities will include:

+ Lead and/or participate in all aspects of the compute system lifecycle including facility integration, standup, acceptance testing, performance benchmarking, operational support, and reclamation.
+ Maintain all system aspects of security, networks, filesystems, system software installation, and advanced user support.
+ Develop new operational methodologies and design infrastructure to support groundbreaking research utilizing one or more of the HPC, ML, and DevOps systems
+ Learn features of system architecture and software environments from one team and apply those to other systems and environments.

Required:

+ Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems Engineering (CIS/MIS) or relevant STEM field plus 5 years' experience, or thirteen or more years of related IT experience.
+ 5 years experience with Linux /Unix operating systems, including hardware setup, installation, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
+ Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q security clearance.

Desired:

+ Experience installing clusters (initial racking/cabling/diagnosing hardware issues)
+ Scripting experience (Shell, Python, PERL, or any other system-level scripting).
+ Basic understanding of networking concepts and infrastructure, such as firewalls, routing, bonding, and VLANs
+ Experience with security and authentication components, such as, Kerberos, LDAP, SSL, nmap, public and private key encryption, and other third party security products.
+ Experience with Linux containers and related technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.)
+ Experience with Virtual Machine technologies (VMware/VSphere)
+ Cloud experience (Openstack, Azure Stack, AWS)
+ Experience with storage administration, fiber channel SAN, LUN provisioning, NFS filesystem management, and related processes and technologies
+ Ability to implement and review system performance monitoring, determine optimization opportunities, and set new resource/capacity requirements.
+ Understanding of parallel filesystems (e.g. GPFS, Lustre)
+ Understanding of interconnects (e.g., Infiniband, OmniPath, high-speed ethernet)
+ Current DOE Security Clearance
+ Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE SCI security clearance.

Department Description:

Center 9320, Computing Systems and Technology Integration, spans research, development and production activities for the systems, operations, and user support for Sandias scientific simulations. 9320 administers production and prototypeHigh Performance Computing architectures, Machine Learning (ML) systems, and Scientific Computing DevOps infrastructure. They provide advanced support to a wide user base in the forms of performance analysis, DevOps support, and Machine Learning as a Service (MLaaS). 9320 is both a purveyor and consumer of its own capabilities, using its platforms and experience to drive developments for its own system management and user support. Candidates may be hired under this posting to one or more of the 9320 departments: Scientific and Engineering Computing Environments (9321), Information Systems Engineering (9322), HPC Systems (9327), HPC Development (9328).

Security Clearance:

This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years.

Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
