The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Instructor, in the area of Software Engineering. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2020.

The Department is interested in applicants with a demonstrated background and ability to teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in software engineering. The successful applicant will be expected to teach fundamental courses in computer programming and computer systems as well as advanced courses in areas such as: software development methods, software design, analysis, and architecture, software testing, data science, large scale data analytics and software process and project management. The instructor will be responsible for delivery of courses to undergraduate students as well as students in the course-based MEng (Software Engineering) program. Scholarly activity related to engineering education and pedagogy is strongly encouraged. In addition, instructors are expected to contribute to the mentoring and supervision of undergraduate and graduate projects, university service, and community engagement.

The candidate will have earned a PhD degree or a Master's degree in software engineering or a closely related discipline. The successful candidate will have a strong interest in undergraduate and graduate education and in the scholarship of teaching and learning. They will demonstrate excellence in teaching. The candidate will show evidence of academic service and community engagement. They will demonstrate strong oral and written English communication skills and also possess relevant industrial experience in software engineering.

The candidate must be eligible for registration as a professional engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA). Information about becoming a professional engineer can be found at https://www.apega.ca/apply/  

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, in the Schulich School of Engineering, includes 40 academics of all ranks, and is teaching approximately 850 undergraduate and 300 graduate students. We offer programs in Electrical and Software Engineering, as well as minors and specializations in Computer, Biomedical, Digital and Environmental Engineering.
