A unique opportunity to work on science instruments for a variety of space missions seeking to understand questions of the universe. You easily interface across various teams, you ask the right questions to understand all subsystems, and use your Electrical Engineering skills and knowledge to solve complex flight problems.


Our team is responsible for the development of Instruments from project inception to spacecraft integration. We take ownership of all technical aspects of the system and work with the cross-discipline diverse team. We strive for continuous learning and in providing mentorship and involvement with the community of Instrument Systems Engineers. You will provide technical leadership for instruments and their subsystems across all stages of development and implementation by leading team communication and owning system performance and requirements development, management, and verification to ensure mission success.

You have the desire to be close to the science but retain the discipline of a systems engineer from concept development through delivery.

You are eager to learn new concepts, organize, plan, communicate, think holistically and strategically, and be multidisciplinary.

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Physics or related technical discipline with typically a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience; Master's degree in similar disciplines with a minimum of 4 years of related experience; or a Ph.D in similar disciplines with a minimum of 2 years related experience.
  • Significant experience and advanced knowledge in systems engineering, electrical engineering, and flight hardware.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with principal investigators and instrument designers from university, government, or foreign organizations.
  • Excellent presentation skills with experience presenting engineering work to diverse teams at gate reviews, such as Critical Design Reviews.
  • Spaceflight electrical systems conceptual/architectural analysis, including the definition of subsystem requirements.
  • Electrical engineering knowledge of analog, digital, processor, power distribution services allocation, and box and board level interfaces.
  • Knowledge of system integration and test of instruments and/or payloads into flight systems.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks.
  • Evaluate and optimize size, weight, and power.
  • Proven ability to mentor up and down.
  • Cross-discipline knowledge

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with science instrument implementation.
  • Willingness and ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance.
  • Experience working with sensors
  • Knowledge of EE-D-575B
