Department Description:

The Interactive Systems Simulation & Analysis (ISSA) Department develops flexible and powerful tools for analyzing security in operational spaces, particularly high consequence facilities and their surrounding terrain. ISSA develops physics-based, 3D, terrain aware simulations that analyze a system's performance including the interplay between its components including sensing, energy, cyber, and personnel. Simulations may incorporate a mixture of live and simulated assets. Work in a variety of domains such as computer science research, terrain scanning/modeling, 3D modeling, and serious game development contribute to these tools. Example systems include: threat neutralization at NNSA and DoD sites, IED defeat, sensor employment, robotics, and immersive 3D simulations. See http://umbra.sandia.gov/ for more information.
