Intern - (NPC) Navigation, Pointing, and Controls - R&D Graduate - Summer

We are seeking a Summer Intern - R&D Graduate specializing in Signal Processing, Radar Systems, C++ to join our dynamic team Summer of 2021!

On any given day, you may be called on to:

+ Integrate advanced radar and synthetic aperture radar models into a large navigator framework conforming to a specific software-defined style guide
+ Develop and test advanced radar algorithms for position, navigation, and timing within the broad framework of a navigation testbed
+ Develop and evaluate sensor fusion strategies that can integrate an advanced radar model with GNSS receivers, inertial measurement units, and other sensors
+ Take part in code reviews wherein you review the code of others and wherein your own code is reviewed to ensure it meets the requirements of a given project

Required:

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

+ Earned bachelor's degree
+ Currently attending and enrolled full time (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program
+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
+ Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
+ U.S. citizenship

Desired:

Ideally, we would like to see your background include some of the following:

+ Radar and signal processing experience
+ A background in navigation, guidance, and control theory
+ A background in Estimation Theory, including Kalman filters, particle filters, and more
+ Programming in C++
+ A firm understanding of Gitlab and modern coding practices
+ Background or experience in Machine Learning
+ Experience or expertise in inertial measurement systems, GNSS signal processing and GNSS receivers, and other sensing solutions

Department Description:

The Navigation, Pointing, and Controls (NPC) group at Sandia supports a diverse set of customers and technologies. The department specializes in inertial navigation using inertial measurement units (IMUs) and Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers, ultra-accurate position and velocity measurements for synthetic aperture radars (SAR), gimbal pointing with micro-radian accuracy for airborne and space remote sensing, modeling and simulation of space and earth based navigation and tracking systems, and a variety of controls problems. The department includes personnel with expertise in navigation, guidance, estimation, Kalman filters, controls, embedded systems, inertial devices, and many others. Some of the work areas include: hypersonic vehicle GNC algorithm development, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle GNC algorithm development, GPS-denied navigation, physics-based mission analysis of full system vehicle engagements, missile flight trajectory and attitude reconstruction, satellite constellation performance analysis, and HWIL/SWIL simulators.
