What Your Job Will Be Like:





We are seeking a Year Round - Technical Graduate Intern to join our dynamic team!



The position entails working in and supporting Sandia’s Radiation Protection Program serving world-renown research facilities including, the Annular Core Research Reactor (ACRR), Z Machine, and Ion Beam Lab (IBL), and many others, as well as RP-dedicated service programs such as the RP Instrumentation Program, RP Dosimetry Program, RP Sample Diagnostics Program, RP Training Program, and the Radiological Mixed Waste Management Facility (RMWMF). These student internships exist to assist in various technical assignments related to the operations, maintenance, and management of radiological facilities and radiological work across the site and all services provided by the Radiation Protection Program.



On any given day, you may be called on to:





+ Perform analytical analysis in support of radiological work and facility maintenance



+ Perform hazard analysis in preparation for radiological work for the implementation of proper work planning and controls



+ Perform analysis related to neutron characterization efforts associated with radiation effects experimentation



+ Perform analysis related to radiation dosimetry and/or radiochemistry samples

Qualifications We Require:



You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:





+ Earned bachelor's degree



+ Currently attending and enrolled full time in a related accredited graduate program



+ Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0



+ Ability to work up to 30 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer



+ U.S. citizenship





Qualifications We Desire:





+ Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited Graduate Health Physics, Radiological Sciences, or closely related ABET Accredited Science/Engineering Program



+ Possession of fundamental science and engineering skills, engineering and mathematical analysis, principles of radiation, chemistry, and a strong engineering, math, and physics background



+ Experience with hazard control and planning in radiation or nuclear environments



+ Understanding of radiological measurements and analysis



+ Understanding of principles of dosimetric and radiochemistry analysis



+ Experience in radiological modeling codes



+ Demonstrated attributes of leadership skills

The Radiation Protection organization provides radiation protection services to Sandia line organizations and is the steward of the corporate Radiation Protection Program. Our services include translation of DOE rules and directives into Sandia specific requirements; development of tools to identify and control hazards from the use of radioactive materials and radiation-generating devices; providing trained and qualified personnel to support radiological work throughout the Laboratories; and workplace monitoring to ensure effectiveness of radiological controls.
